Review Summary
Despite the "Dinky" model name, there's nothing dinky about this guitar. The solid ash body and bolt-on maple neck come together for a stiff and responsive build that projects tonality, feeding the DiMarzio pickups and creating a big, memorable sound.
Body & Neck Construction
Stiff builds tend to preserve and project tone better than guitars made from soft or cheap woods, and the density of ash makes it an excellent choice for guitar builders looking to make a high-performance instrument. The quarter-sawn 1-piece maple neck, which offers minimal flex, comes down into a scarf joint and is reinforced with graphite, mounted with recessed ferrules instead of a neck plate.
Hardware & Accessories
The PAF Pro pickup from DiMarzio is a good starting point for mix-and-match situations like this one. And paired with the DiMarzio Super Distortion pickup at the bridge, the setup captures this guitar's tonal ability like it's meant to. The addition of a middle pickup, which is a DiMarzio FS-1, boosts the horsepower of everything else to project more volume and tone toward your amplifying gear. The on-body controls include volume and tone knobs, plus a tone switch that can split the pickups for single-coil action.
Design & Feel
If you're after a well-built guitar that still plays easy, Charvel's Super Stock has you covered. With jumbo frets, a nice compound-radius fretboard, an oiled satin neck finish, and light-gauge strings included, this guitar will feel alive in your hands from the second you pick it up to when you're forced to put it back down.
