An outstanding loudspeaker - bought my second set

About a year or so ago, I bought my first set of Studio 230's from JBL. I loved the speakers so much, that I bought a second set to match with a separate Yamaha amp that I own. I also own a set of the ELAC B6 loudspeakers, so I was able to compare them with each other. The ELAC B6 has slightly better bass, but there was a noticeable, higher sound quality, overall, with the JBL Studio 230's. My musical tastes run the gamut from acapella choir, jazz, folk, rock, punk rock...etc...you name it. These are genuinely high quality speakers - so match them with an appropriate amp that matches their 20-150W range. Soon, you'll find yourself immersed with wonderful sound. The large numbers of 5 star ratings from other satisfied customers reflect just how good these speakers are. Well done, JBL.

Amazing clarity.

First off I want to know how these woofers are being measured because by my measurements this is closer to a 5.25 than a 6.5. That being said however you will not miss the extra inch in size as these speakers really put a very loud clean bass that I never imagined could be reproduced in a speaker of this size. I had some old pioneer 8in three way speakers and not only are the highs and mids much clearer but the bass is actually deeper and much less in your face. The best part of these speakers is how soft they sound. They have a very calming sound to them. No matter the music I play they never seem to be harsh or too upfront. They have a very smooth signature to them. Seeing how they perform now I would gladly buy these again and will tell everyone about them.

Exceptional clarity

Bought these refurbished, but they were good as new (or better). You won't go better for the size and price.

I like the piano glass top

I bought these on sale to replace 12 yr. old Infinity Beta 20's. They are used for 2 channel stereo in my bedroom. The weight is pretty heavy, and they feel solid. For the price I think they are a pretty good deal. The sound quality is good.

Defective

Tilted JBL logos on both speakers and a visible scratch on one of the tweeters. I can now say that I don’t trust anything made in China. I’m fairly upset and I don’t have the time to return these speakers.

Superb clarity and value for money

I heard the KEF Q350 and B&W's, Klipsch Reference, all in book shelf size. The JBL's not only sounded clearer and more detailed than all of them but also had some nice bass to back the sound up. I got them on sale and they were less than half the price of the others so not only are they the best all rounder but on sale were a no brainer. I also like the 150 watt rating so you can crank them a little if you like. With acoustic and voice based music along with WELL recorded electronic, ambient, these are SUPERB. I have found as expected older recordings and heavier rock (Soundgarden, Screaming Trees ) they tend to reveal any flaws in the mix. Not that its any deal breaker but the great rock albums sound better on my towers (Paradigm Studio reference 60's)and of course size accounts for that. These JBL's also really shine with movies, I'm hearing clarity of vocals I didn't even hear with the towers, which are nearly ten times the price, yes the JBL's are that good.

It's what the Pro's Use !

As a veteran Recording Artist I can say this... Studio 230's are "true studio monitors". Moreover, every commercial Cinema uses horn loaded speakers for the mains & surrounds. These are horn loaded speakers. Is it any wonder that your local Cinema has JBL horn loaded 2 way speakers as surrounds hung along the sides & rear walls? Now, we can too. If budget allows? 7 of these puppies used in a 7.1 surround setup in your home, would be unbeatable! Especially if, you were to add a "worthy" sub-woofer to the mix. Studio 230's truly are 1 of the greatest 2 way speakers ever made for under $500. ~ peace

Best price and best performing for home theater

Had many options but went with Zeos Youtube review on these and took a chance. Loved how sturdy and big they are and they fit beautifully on stands as fronts in my 7.1 surround system. They sound great with a clean, non harsh tweeter and great bass.
