Update after 11 months

I compared this speaker to Revel 208 and have not changed opinion. Anthem Room Correction makes a really good speaker great. I have paired with Infinity 3 way center and matchs tonally. The speaker is easy to drive and accurate. This speaker often fools me. A knock on the door in a movie can send me to the door. Some sounds seem to emanate from down or upstairs.

Bought this a few weeks ago. They sound really good, was hoping the bass would be a little crisper but not bad. I'm just going to add a couple subwoofers to the system

Incredible Rich Sound

It’s been a few years since I’ve had a JBL product and what I thought was great before just got better. These speakers provide such full, rich sound, they’re simply incredible. I had the 412’s and the 312’s in the late nineties. These two speakers sound as good as those four used too. All this for less than half the money.

Worth the wait! I purchased the JBL Studio 290's

I purchased the Studio 290's via telephone direct from JBL after talking several times to their experts. I had been tracking these speakers for months online. Originally priced at $599.99 per speaker they were a little bit out of my budget at nearly $1,300.00 including taxes. Over the holidays I watched the price drop first to $399.99 and then to an even lower Black Friday $349.99 price. I hesitated due to other Christmas expenses and missed out on that price. Disappointed, I continued to monitor the price up to and through Christmas. They bounced back up to $399.00 and I once again hesitated. I checked back the second week of January and couldn't believe my eyes. I even made another call to JBL to confirm what I was looking at. To my total shock the price was on a "special" few days sale(including a countdown clock) at an unbelievable(too me at least)...$299.99 each with free shipping. That's right...$299.99! Needless to say my debit card came flying out of my wallet on it's own. Lol! Can you say Christmas in January? I had been using an excellent sounding pair of JBL HLS810 2-way bookshelf's since 1999. I bought them brand new and they have served me well. The Studio 290's arrived very well packaged and undamaged on Monday(1/14/19). Unboxed and installed them into place in my home theater. Fired them up and man...these speakers really, really ooze with quality sound. I'm a "semi-professional" musician(percussionist), so I know music. These things sound like I'm literally in the middle of one of my band practices or gigs. When it comes to watching movies now, it's a whole new world. Voice dialogues, soundtracks, breaking glass, firing-bullets, explosions, etc. just went to a new level. I realize they are going through a break-in-period and will only get better and better. Lucky me! FYI I'm running a full JBL LF, RF, center and sub package. Along with pre-installed M &S rear in-ceiling speakers. Believe me, it sounds great. Using a Sony STR-DH770 AV receiver and a Sony XBR-65X750D 65" 4K TV for a "canvas". It's obvious that you can spend more. But for my investment over the years I'm very satisfied when I sit down to enjoy some TV, movies or music. I will be rotating the JBL HLS 810's into my game room. No way am I parting with my "babies". They've been with me a long time. I'll add a little sub-woofer(already have another Sony receiver and a center-channel) and I'll have a nice #2 system when entertaining in that part of the house. All-in-all I'd say the Studio 290's were...well worth the wait indeed!

Finally! I've been waiting for a long time to have a sound like this. Had the opportunity to purchase other brands but always wanted JBL. Now having them, they were well worth the wait.

Fantastic Sound

These are the speakers I've wanted since I was 18 years old. The sound is incredible. It's like hearing some of the music for the first time. Could not be happier with our purchase.

Sounds great JBL doesn't let down

I bought a pair of the studio 290s about a month ago. At first i thought that the 200 dollars off the regular price that they were just not very good on sound quality. I was wrong.... these thing are just like you would expect from JBL. I have these along with the Audio 180s for my back channel on my surround sound..... the sound from both sets is like being in the show or at a concert. These will make the neighbors jealous. If you can afford these get them.

AWESOME STUDIO 290 SPEAKERS

Since first heard my JBL DECADE 36 3 WAY SPEAKERS some 40 years ago I have had JBL on my mind and these Studio 290's along with my Studio 590's are just as awesome if more so than my Decade 36's

GOOD SPEAKERS BUT.......BAD CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

I bought a pair of 290's just before Black Friday...speakers arrived in just so-so condition - side of the carton was damaged and you could see in the side of the speakers...i was very worried but on opening found it just about OK - on the top glossy surfaces of the speaker on one of them there were some spots or scratches....not sure....anyway i was keen to listen to them so BI-AMPED them and played a few favorites...sounded just OK...after a few hours however the bass increased and i fiddled with the equalizer settings on my MARANTZ SR 7005...and then these speakers opened up much better and by day 3 they were very good. Now for the BAD part....since Black Friday deals started JUST after i bought these ..i requested JBL to check if they could adjust and honor the BF prices & possibly refund me the difference in price (what i paid versus what it was listed for) - difference was only about 70 $ (if i recall)....the initial email from the rep suggested this could be done...but then to my UTTER disappointment they said i would have to RETURN these REALLY HEAVY (65 LBS each) speakers and order them AGAIN.....I pleaded with them that due (my upcoming international travel for many weeks ) and the fact that the already damaged cartons were probably not sturdy enough they stuck to thier point - it did not really MAKE ANY SENSE to do this.....but they insisted and said that WAS THE ONLY WAY....well THEY JUST LOST A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE>>>>WILL NEVER EVER AGAIN BUY A JBL PRODUCT.....and I do buy a lot of Electronics....i was amazed that they could not just do an adjustment of prices....it was not the money but the principle of their STUPID argument that did it for me....I guess they realize that for an average consumer - it will be VERY DIFFICULT TO REPACK THESE LARGE AND HEAVY SPEAKERS AND MANUALLY CARRY THEM BACK TO UPS...they are banking on customer reluctance and exploiting it FULLY...NOT GOOD AT ALL in my view...SORRY but that's the story....I asked the REP to contact his seniors with my story.....but guess it will never go anywhere...
