I purchased the Joby strap for both the hand strap and the plate. Other hand straps were available that would give the extra assurance of a secure hold on the camera. What I like about the Joby with ultra-plate is that I can attach my Black Rapid strap to the plate using one of the 2 threaded holes and still use the plate on a tripod without needing to detach anything.

Love this strap & plate. Once you feel your camera & lens is too heavy around your neck, you could get this for a comfortable and secure way to hand hold your slr . I have Black Rapid strap (Curve model) with it .The plate is Arca-Swiss sized for most tripods or monopods,so you don't need change it for pod.David

Works awesome! I'm using this with my Manfrotto MHXPRO-3W X-PRO 3-Way Head and Joby UltraFit Sling Strap on my Nikon D90. I had to offset the mount to completely clear battery door. There is probably less than a business cards width between the shoulder mount and tripod head when mounted, but I can leave the strap on and easily attach and detach from my tripod. Love it.

Works well on the Olympus OMD EM1.2 but the base plate makes battery replacement difficult. The Sirui plate also has a strap slot and this works well, with the advantage that I don't need to carry a wrench to loosen the plate. This should work well with most cameras but the Oly is smaller than many - hence the battery issue.

This is the perfect way add a second anchor point to your camera. Installed this on my Nikon D3200 and I can now attach to my tripod base without having to remove my Joby sling strap.
