Very pleased with this adapter. Works very well with the Zeiss 80mm f/2.8. The larger 50 and 150mm f/4 lenses are a bit more cumbersome, but not much more so than using them on my 501c. Infinity focus is fine with the 80mm. Colors, sharpness, bokeh, and fall of are all exactly what I was looking for. Focal reducer really preserves a lot of that medium format look. Also very well built. There are no real downsides I can think of considering how much less this costs than a digital back.

This outstanding adapter keeps amazing me with its results. I had several tests planned to push it to its limits with my Hasselblad lenses (40, 80, & 150mm). Before starting I visited a local greenhouse and nearby rail-yard. The initial results are so amazing that I am not going to bother with the testing. With this adapter I have my Hasselblad perspective, and quality, back!

An extremely well made and functional specialty adapter. One of the appeals of the Sony Alpha series line of cameras are their nearly endless capacity to house all manner of lenses, now with this lenses with even larger Image circles than traditional 35mm equivalents can be used in conjunction with any Full-frame Alpha series camera while gaining a stop of light, maintaining the incredible Medium Format Look and sharpness.

Strictly speaking, this a response to Steven D's comments about "play" in the Hassy lens fit. I experienced the same with a 110 mm CF lens, albeit in the non-Baveyes Kipon adapter for the Leica M mount. My work-around solution was to wrap the butt end of the lens with "sufficient" Teflon plumbers' tape to get a snug fit. Maybe not elegant, but it works.

I am using this adapter, as the only one available of it's kind, for a video project where for the look emulating medium format (65mm) film references. The 'speed booster' concept to be able to use very nice Hassy glass with some vintage qualities, and fain the stop, was obviously very appealing to accomplish this, & record the full sensor (no crop) in UHD for saving some detail, which only Sony cameras are doing at the moment. We used C, CF, and CFi glass during the shoot. The adapter itself feels very solid, the tripod mount point on it is fantastic to have and well thought out. High quality parts and construction. Changing lenses was very easy. As far as I could tell, the field of view was impressively similar to actual MF. I used a viewfinder side by side to choose lenses, and it seemed pretty accurate. Some gotchas: - Some lenses had more play than others. So this solution is really a non starter if you're hoping to do focus pulls and things like that. Static imagery, photos - not a big deal. Maybe it's the lenses themselves, but on the Hassy body, they have no play, so not sure what the deal is. Some lenses, like the oldest we had (the silver C series lenses), were perfect and had zero play, interestingly. - Infinity focus issues on 180mm and up - some weren't even close and still quite OOF turned all the way to inifinity. Again, not an issue on the Hasselbad body. Everything 150mm and down seemed to work fine as and as expected for achieving infinity focus for landscapes and the like. - Vignetting, especially on longer focal lengths. Especially noticeable outdoors. The shorter focal lengths.. 40mm, 50mm, 80mm, etc - very slight if any and basically a non issue. Take away: The item works, but expect some quirks and limitations. It opens up a new option that produces some wonderful images that are still pretty unique to the standard super-35 or full frame world.

This is a wonderful adapter. The ability to get a MF image onto a FF digital sensor is remarkable. There's just something about that MF look. I use this with a Sony a7r II and my hasselblad zeiss glass with I normally use with a 501c body. Sharpness isn't as good with the adapter as it is on film but it's still wonderful.

Medium Format Video

An extremely well made and functional specialty adapter. A simple Kipon lens adapter enables the use of camera and lens combinations from otherwise incompatible systems with a secure connection between the camera and the lens. More advanced Kipon lens adapters include electronic connections, enabling communication between the lens and the camera so that automated processes like exposure informationand auto focus are carried out transparently.
The most advanced Kipon lens adapters features autofocus, auto exposure, aperture operation and relates all EXIF data to the camera body. The internal chip containing the adapter's firmware is USB upgradable so that the adapter will always be technically ready for action. Infinity focus is retained in this design, and manual focusing is possible.
Kipon produces a variety of designs in adaptation, imparting speed enhancements, automation reliability, including fine image control and, finally, bridges the world of DSLR lenses to SLT and Mirrorless cameras.
On one end you have the Sony E-mount, and on the other you have the Hasselblad V-mount. The magic happens in between, where a specially designed lens/optical element focuses the medium-format image and squeezes it down to fit a full-frame sensor.
Sony's A7R II camerafeatures a high resolution 42-megapixel sensor, and many modern medium-format sensors are in the 50-megapixel range. So while there is still some benefit in terms of resolution for shooting a true medium-format camera, a Sony A7R II could get very close in terms of look and resolution.
Please Note: With This Baveyes Adapter althought the lens will fit physically, a uto focus or any other functions will not work. You can shoot with manual mode with Sony E mount Full framne Camera.
Gain a Stop. Widen Your Horizons. Kipon Baveyes brand is an ingenious blend of many concepts. But foremost is the ability to use full frame SLR lenses on crop sensor camera bodies and mirrorless cameras, with a gain in lens speed. The transformation results in a 0.7x factor to the original lens focal length, conveniently compressing a full-frame image onto an APS-C sensor. At the same time, the adapter adds one f-stop of effective speed in the process, gaining faster shutter speeds at lower ISO's. A 50mm f1.4 lens becomes a 35mm f1.0, or high 800 ISO can shift down to a tighter 400. This allows you to use, for example, your sweet legacy full frame Leica R, Canon EF or Nikon F glass on your cameras like the Sony NEX or Fuji X camera without any loss in angle of view, with an extra stop of speed. Where does this all end? Creating some amazing results from your choice lenses on all kinds of digital bodies.
Using the language of astrophysics, the phenomenon is called telecompression. A telecompressor, or focal reducer, is an optical group formula to reduce focal length, increase lens speed, and enhance MTF performance. By using a telecompressor element within a lens adapter, you can use the lenses of classic SLR's, while gaining a stop.
The innovative Kipon Baveyes auto focus adapters combine focal length transformation and lens speed boosting along with traditional lens/camera adaptation. Don't expect to turn your old Chevy into a hero Autobot, but you can make some pretty interesting, handsome and unique photoimaging combinations!
