Ergonomically balanced and a must have.
Overall a perfect addition to my Kata backpack, puts tripod in a balanced location directly behind and center where it should be.

Works but bad positioning
This simple tripod carrier attaches to the back of Kata sling packs. Kata makes the best photo backpacks I've ever seen. In fact they make the best packs I've ever seen. The quality and design is tops. Why then would they make this tripod carrier so that it attaches at the farthest point from your back? This causes the entire pack to pull backwards at the top and also makes it quite awkward to access a camera via slinging the pack around to the front. It works but it defeats the purpose of a sling pack in the first place. I think they did it because there was just no alternative way for their sling pack to carry a tripod other than placing it on the outside back of the pack. I have it but I rarely use it.

Kata holder fits perfectly.
Always nice to have a tripod on board, and the hold allows this easily.

Good but could be better
This accessory attaches to the back of the Kata pack for carrying a tripod. Now for some simple physics: since it is attached farthest from your back, its position provides the greatest leverage for a heavy tripod to impose on the upper torso. In other words, it pulls the upper pack shoulder straps back due to the weight of the tripod acting at such a distance. However, it does secure the tripod. I just wouldn't want to use it to carry a really heavy tripod any substantial distance. I can't understand why they made this accessory since the Kata is such an extraordinarily well-designed photo pack of the highest quality. I use it only on light-weight tripods - where it's just adequate to the task.

Design refinement needed on top strap
A very useful attachment, in our case, securing a lightweight Manfrotto tripod on a Kata 3N1-10 sling bag. No interference on the sling action or quickdraw accessibility of the bag. It does slightly impede access to loading up the bag when the tripod is in place. Too much velcro fastener on the top securing loop that wraps around the bag's carrying handle, has seen the polymer material of the bag's carrying handle fray within two weeks of use. Resourceful Kata designers/engineers should look into this. We fixed it by making up a small poly-material wrapper to protect the handle before attaching the top securing loop. For under US$20.00 though, it cannot be faulted.
