Questions & Answers

SCOTT W : is this an old model? If so which one replaces it?Simon P : It might be 2010 or 2011 model/ I purchased this in mar/2011 and it was listed in their web site back then. It fit well with my D200 with optional battery holder and a SB800 flash. It is very compact and fit what I used it for. the current price is a great deal!. Hope this help! Simon P BostonGERARD S : Never used it, a waste of money. Too bulky unhandy. Too many straps, startede cutting some of the strappes and find out one of them was the wrong one,so it became worthless. Not a good buy. Jerry SomersESTHER M : i dont know. UNfortunately, i havent even had a chance to use it yet.
Aries M : Can you use this for camcorders? How many compartments?JEFFREY Z : Jeffrey I am not using for a camcorder, but would think it could be used for one. There are 2 removable velcro tabbed dividers that create 3 potential pockets in the main bag. Then there are two zipper pockets for accessories and a cell phone type pocket. I like the way you can sling it forward or backward like a pack. Forward for quick access. Hope this is helpfulDAVID A : Not sure if can use for cam-corders, but there are three modifiable compartments that can accommodate various sized equipment. I am very pleased with this purchase. It is sturdy and well built. I can fit a medium sized DSL camera (with lense attached), extra lense (large), flash (full size) without worrying about banging the case. There is also a thin compartment along the back that is large enough to fit an iPad. This is a versatile bag and if the dimension fit your cam-corder (and accessory) needs (i.e., dimensons), i wouldn't hesitate to purchase. Good luck and enjoy.ARIYA T : you can use for which ever you one. The compartment you can divide as you want. they give you 2 divider, and you can set them as you like or can be remove.JOAN S : This pack has one large compartment with 2 moveable velcro dividers. It has a side pocket I use for extra batteries & lens filters & covers. It also has a frt compartment I use for paper & pen, ID, etc. I am able to fit my Rebel EOS, a 75-300 zoom lens, my 50mm prime lens and my Canon.SX20 IS in the pack. The pack also came with a water proof cover which come in handy because I primarily shoot outside. It is very sturdy so I can set it down at the side of a trail & not worry about the equipment inside. I don't use a camcorder but it would probably work well depending on the size & amount of equipment you are using. The strap is well padded. I've had a neck injury & got this pack to avoid pull & pressure on my neck. I feel it works well.BRUCE S : There is one large compartment (about 12 inches long, 5 inches deep, about 10 inches high at the large end, about 4 inches high at the low end), divided by two rip and stick dividers that can be adjusted or removed as desired. The outside compartment does not hold much besides the rain cover.n There is a narrow pocket under the TST shield that can hold a notepad and other thin items such as memory cards. It should work fine for a modern comsumer camcorder.DUANE R : I haven't tried a camcorder in this pack but I am sure it would fit fine since you can adjust the velcro dividers into 1-3 compartments. I bought this for a 4 day fishing float trip in Alaska. It rained all four days so the rain resistant cover (included) really helped keep things dry. Since my trip I continue to use this pack everywhere I go. I love how I can get just what I need in the pack for that moment. I also like how I can easily move the bag from front to back when I need to for a picture op or maneuvering while hiking rough areas. I also like the flat sided compartment for carrying my Ipad! Would definitely recommend this system!HAL D : I don't see why not. I have a Canon EOS 7D with a 24-105mm lens and it pretty much fills up the middle compartment. The 7D is a quite large DSLR. It has three compartments with "top" access and they can house most anything, extra batteries, straps, etc. There are also several "side" compartments that are handy for filters, manuals, etc.WALTER L : I'm not sure about camcorders. I use it for Canon EOS SLR with a long zoom, a wide angle zoom, a Canon flash unit, a couple PocketWizzards and I use the side pocket for light modifiers and a white balance disk. So, I suppose that smaller camercorders should fit. It has an adjustable piece to make two compartments in the main section. The side pocket is large enough to hold the Canon 550EX flash. The other side compartment will hold things like small folding reflectors.
Shopper : Can I use this bag as a carry on luggage for airline flights? cause it seems like it's 1.5 inch too big?DAN G : i absolutely love my bag and use it on the airplane all the time as my second carry on. i usually have a roller bag as well. if i feel like carrying a lot i can fit a D300 with a 70-200, another lens, as well as a flash and other things. i where it all the time even without a camera in the bag. its great for all sort of things and the little zipper on the side will let you slip an iPad in which is great.EUGENE P : This bag is no where near the limit of a carry on luggage from what I can tell. I am not sure which dimensions you are using, but the bag is big to carry, but small versus carry on limits.ALLAN J : I haven't flown in quite a few years, but, I can't imagine that it would be considered to big to a carry on. I do remember bringing on things like an overnight bag and stuffing it in the overhead. This bag,I think, could be considered as a carry on. I hope i'm right.KEVIN B : Yes you can, it's about the size of a small backback/laptop bag. Without question it's more than acceptable as a carry on.DUANE R : Yes, I used it as my carryon. I was on a Sun Country flight to Alaska in June. This fit nicely under the seat too. I like how you can adjust the compartments to fit whatever you are taking; I use it everywhere I go.FRANCE M : My understanding, from having flown internationally, is that the overall dimension is what counts for carry-on regulations. Best to check with the airlines you use. It is actually about the size of a woman's large tote bag ;-)..cheersRichard A : You can definitely use it for that, no problem. ;)WILLIAM H : I'm sorry, I don't know as I don't fly.LORI K : It should be fine as carry on. I have taken much bigger camera bags on a flight. I usually count it as my purse and another bag as my personal item. I returned my Kata bag as it was not adjustable enough for a small woman to use.KELLY N : In Spring 2011, I took my Kata T-214 as carryon from the USA to Europe with no issues.JOCK C : Yes, you can. It's actually much smaller then a carry-on luggage.BRUCE S : It should be no problem, carry on size is 22x14x9 this bag is 12x10x6.JEFFREY Z : I have used the Kata T-14 several times as a carry on bag on flights with no problem whatsoever. I like the ability of the bag to ride on back or front with easy access to my gear. The side pockets are handy for accessories and the rain cover was a nice surprise. I pack my DSLR with a 50mm affixed as well as my 70-200 tele and one other lens. Hope this is helpful.Marc M : I have treated it as a carry on on many flights. When measured against a rectangular maxcimum sized carry on, it is considerably smaller. There have even been instances where I have treated this as apersonal item and taken aboard another carry on as well.CHRIS W : its not very big in fact I fins it a bit small for my camera needs

Great Protection, light, small bag

Nice light bag for carrying a DSLR (up to medium size like Nikon D700 or Canon 5D MKII) and a small lens or two. Feels light yet is very protective.

Glad I bought it

I bought this to replace a smaller bag that just didn't work well for me. I already use a Kata video bag for work and love the yellow interior (makes it easier to find things), ease to configure, and awesome carry strap. I love everything about this bag except the straps. It carries well, distributes weight effectively, moves into position nicely for retrieving and swapping lenses, etc. But, the narrow web strap twists too easily. Also, unless you're going to add other components of the system the extra waist strap is totally unnecessary and gets in the way - I'll be cutting it off. I wish it had a wider, more substantial shoulder strap. Other than that, this is an awesome bag for carrying a body, attached lens, 2nd lens and a flash. I recently lugged it around for a long weekend and loved how comfortable it was and how easy it was to get to my gear.

Kata GDC T-214 Torso Pack

I wanted an equipment bag for outdoor excursions like snowshoeing, hunting, fishing and biking. The pack works well with lots of pockets and adjustable compartments. The only thing I would like to see different is a way to swing it around to hang on your backside when needed. The strap is contoured for the front side only.

Kata T-214 Camera Bag is great!

I travel to Scotland often and the torso pack has made it easier and less bulky to carry my Nikon D40 all over the country. The ability to wear it on my back or on my chest comfortably makes all the difference in the world!

A different sortof camera bag

I did a lot of research before I bought this bag. It is in a small category of shoulder bags that can be carried in front, which is what I wanted- to be able to reach in and grab my camera without taking off the pack. This it does very well. I can even support my elbows on it to take a picture. It is extremely well built, though there are fewer pockets and less space than I had hoped. Still, it was not meant to be a bag that holds everything, and it can be attached to other products in the Kata system for more carrying capacity. It can be used as a back-pack as well as a front pack. I would not take it out in a rainstorm without a rain cover-I wish it came with one. The weight pulls out away from the body a bit- perhaps I don't have the straps adjusted correctly. It came with almost no instructions and has a lot of straps. Still, I DO like this bag. It does what I wanted it to do. It holds my Canon 30d with 70-300 lens attached (hood turned back over lens), an additional short lens fits on the smaller side ( 17-85), or the large lens will also fit on the small side if camera and a different lens are on the large side. That combo is a bit tight though-harder to pull the lens out. It has one small outside pocket-might hold a lens cleaner brush,a little pocket inside for xtra battery or card, and a big pocket in back suitable only for flat things such as manuals, as this part also rests against your body. There is also a front expansion pocket which is a bit hard to open, but in a pinch I found I could get a flash attachment in there. As I am a woman, I wondered if a front bag would be comfortable, and it is. You can adjust the carrying height to suit your body type. I find this important as I find most gear is designed for men. I think, though not sure, you can carry it on either shoulder with adjustments, though left shoulder is what I use and is shown.
