CAROL M : how about security? I'm concerned about whether someone could easily open the back zipper and remove my 7D in a crowd????????NATHAN D : I think you would be fine. You could do a few things. You could always put a small lock on it along with making sure the inner strap is on the 7d. Personally I don't think someone could take it out on you unless you were really getting pushed around in a crowd and they are a PRO and know your bag well.MICHAEL D : Hello, I have not have any issues. The pack works great.KATHY S : I couldn't be happier with my backpack. Most of the time I have it on the "trolley" wheeling it behind me. But, truthfully - people do not know that it's a camera bag when it's on my back. Go for it. best purchase...LEO G : I have never given a thought about that happening. If you travel in highly congested places someone could open the back however if you strap the camera in I am sure you would know if they try and remove the camera.
Shopper : what criteria was used in choosing this pack?Jose A : Lots of room and pockets. It's a BIG pack. I ended up returning it and getting a CaseCruzer customized Pelican case. For the size, I'd rather go with a hard case, although, this is an excellent backpack :)MILES E : The criteria I used for choosing the Kata 255 was that I could carry an attached 300 F2.8 to my Canon Mark IV and also carry another pro body and a couple of lenses. I travel sometimes on a motorcycle so I can park closer to the entrance of the event and I can get around vehicles faster at the end in the traffic jams.ARNIE H : I wanted to make sure it would fit my 17" MacBook ProSONJA H : I wanted a light-weight pack. I have purchased others and they were too heavy to carry when loaded. This pack fit-the-ticket! I love this pack!RONALD V : it's weight (lightest i found with the features), amount of padding/camera protection, heavy duty, expandability (i can attach anything in the bottom), gel like shoulder strap, load bearing suspension.... i take this to long hikes. MARK L : I wanted a larger pack to store gear which would accommodate a hydration bag (in the laptop slot). It has been a great pack although it does tempt one to carry more than is needed on a given trip.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?RONALD V : good backpack with awesome weight. i manage to pack it with almost 40 lbs of weight. instead of a laptop, the lining allows camelbacks to remain cool throughout long hikes.

What a quality bag

It's a good size plenty of room for gear. Doesn't have a personal compartment section was a draw back for me, but the space is perfect for all your gear. Tripod holder able to fit in the center is perfect for balance on long hikes. Can't say anything negative about this bag . Really well made as usual haven't had any thing from Kata that wasn't. Can hold a ton of stuff well thought out. Would recommend this bag

Best for when you only need a few items

I purchased this new Kata bag as a replacement for my ThinkTank Traveler bag and to give Kata a try. I'm very pleased with the lightweight construction, great zippers and excellent stitching, as well as the bright yellow/orange interior, which helps when trying to find small items in low light. Unfortunately, this new bag will only be used for the times I don't need most of my equipment, which isn't all that much. I can only fit my Canon 5D3 body, 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 lens, along with a 1.4xTC. If I add any other lenses, I don't have any room for my 580EX-II flash, spare camera and flash batteries, USB card reader, Gary Fong Lightsphere, cables, lens cleaning cloths, etc. All of these items fit in my ThinkTank Traveler bag, in addition to my Canon 85mm/1.8 and Tokina 11-16/2.8 lenses, plus my laptop mouse, laptop power brick, snacks, etc. I'm taking this bag on a 5-day trip this week, to photograph an IronMAN triathlon in Augusta, so, this will be a good field test, including airplane travel. My laptop is only a 15-inch Lenovo T410, so, it should fit, with some room for a few magazines. Besides the limited space constraints, another concern I have is the zipper pulls aren't as hefty as my ThinkTank bag and I'm afraid my security lock may actually break off the tiny holes in the zipper pulls. One feature I'm looking forward to trying out is the integrated camera strap system, which relieves neck strain, by having the camera weight supported by the backpack itself, if you're wearing it while shooting. This is an innovative feature I've not seen on a camera bag before.

Big on space, light on your back

Having only had one other bag to compare too, take this for what it is worth. Also keep in mind that different people have different needs. Okay, I LOVE THIS BAG! I had another brand of backpack that was as large as this, but much lower quality. The zippers didn't hold up and after the first month I had to exchange for a new one. That one made it a week. I saw a great sale on this one so I gave it a shot. I was able to put in this bag: Canon T4i w/ 18-135mm STM Lens Battery Grip w/6 extra batteries and 2 battery chargers EF 28mm 1.8 Lens EF 50mm 1.8 Lens Memory card case Speedlight 430EX, extra AA batteries and charger 4 Filter kit Satechi Bluetooth Remote Trigger Various Cables and Card Readers Black Rapid Shoulder Strap Rain Cover Lens Pens Cleaning Kit 15" Macbook Pro with Charger Wacom Bamboo Tablet Portable Hard Drive GoPro Hero2 w/ both cases, extra battery, mounts, cables wifi backpack That is pretty much all my gear. It can get a little heavy on my back with all of that in there at the same time, but most of the time I leave my laptop out which takes a lot of weight off. The zippers seem to be of high quality and I don't have any fear of them busting as them seem solid. The bag, when empty, is incredibly light. I like that it has a rigid Aluminum frame and since I am a bigger guy (300lbs) I like that the shoulder straps are more than long enough to expand to my size. Another plus is that the waist belt is removable as I would never use it and I don't have to feel it stuffed against my back. The easy access "Front door" is nice if you just want to grab your camera quick. I also like the individual pods in the main compartment, each with their own zipper to close them. It may be another zipper to open, but it keeps your stuff from falling out if you have someone else open it while on your back. There are a lot of adjustments that you can make with the straps, which adds a lot of versatility. In my opinion, this is the best bag for what I paid for it. I would have had a hard time paying full price for this bag, before I owned it and realized how perfect it was for me. As for anything that I don't like about it, I can't think of any yet, and hope I never find a problem with it. For my needs, it does everything I need it to do. If you are looking for 1 bag to hold all of your stuff, this one is great!
