Questions & Answers

Shopper : What do you do with this reader?CARLOS E : Carry it with my keychain with encrypted information. It proved useful at one time to read my phone's microSD in order to make a backup. This reader is not ultra-fast. It is a little slow even for a USB 2.0 device regardless of the speed of the memory in it, but if speed is not what you're looking for, it works well and it is tiny.HAITHAM H : dear sir first I am sorry for delay.... reader is too bad, I had got 3 of these readers and they got not work after one or three monthsCALVIN C : The card reader is a fast way to move photographs from my digital camera to my computer where I edit them and prepare slideshows.. The advantage to using a card reader rather than connecting the camera to the computer id that the computer battery can't die during download. CalMACS R W : If you're asking what the item does, you put a microSD memory card into one end, and plug the other end into a USB port. In other words, it makes a thumb drive equivalent out of an SD card.
BENJAMIN C : Is this compatible with Mac? I purchased one some time ago by IOGEAR that won't work on a Mac. Thank you.MACS R W : Flatly, yes. I use mine exclusive with a Mac.MICHAEL J : I don't know if it's compatible with Mac OS, but I can tell you that it works fine with Windows 7, Linux (Debian and Ubuntu), as well on on Android. I don't see why it wouldn't be. Maybe the file system on your MicroSD card is not MacOS compatible.MACS R W : I've used two of these units on a Mac and there's no problem with them. USB is USB – it should work on any device in the world. Perhaps the storage card that you inserted into it wasn't formatted to be compatible with a Mac.HAITHAM H : Dear sir, I am sorry, that I don't have Mac to try, but its work on my Pc ibm compatibleIGOR D : I do not have a Mac, but it works on Linux/Windows. It seems to follow standard USB protocol, so it should have nothing to do with Mac.MASAHIRO M : Yes it works with both Mac and PC.
ORION E : Looking at the photo of the device I dont see a USB end to plug in. Where is it? All I see is the end for a micro sd device.MICHAEL B : The side that has the 4 gold parallel lines goes into the USB port on your PC.MARK B : The microSD card inserts into the end where the lanyard/keyring attaches. The four contact strips on the opposite end are the USB contacts, and this is the end that inserts into the USB port on the computer. This reader is so thin that it is only half the thickness of the computer's USB port. Thus, you won't see a traditional looking USB plug on it. You'll just see half of one. Hope that helps. Thanks.JAVIER P : The USB (male) part is the exposed metal strips. Those exposed metal bars, go into the into the female part of the other component. Hope this helps It is a clever little gadget and very small. I took my microSD card from an old phone and packed it with music and use it in my cars usb reader.EDWARD B : That is all I see also.Altho you need this to plug into a card reader,MACS R W : The four parallel copper strips ARE the USB interface. The MicroSD card slides into a pocket on the lanyard end, on the side opposite the side displayed.HAITHAM H : Dear sir... Dont worry the other end is typical usb connection but without metal case around it and the golden lines are connection tracks.MASAHIRO M : The end plug you see in the picture is actually the USB connector. It looks tiny, but that's the size of USB. microSD holder is under neath of Kingston logo. This device works the way it should be.ED C : the right side in this picture (with the 4 gold contacts) is the usb connector, and goes into the usb slot. the micro goes inside the unit, on the left side here. This is the smallest unit I could find.ORION E : Ok, so if the micro sd card is inside does it detach?JEFFREY F : The photo is the USB plug. The micro sd card is insideANTHONY P : The end with the 4 gold strips is inserted into a USB port. They did away with the rectangular metal case that you normally see around the end of a usb device.

RPi Perfect & Mult-Boot Fedora/Debian Windows saver.

I have four, two on ;my desk and two on my keychain. On my desk are for Raspberry Pi NOOBS loading, I'll burn an OS with the laptop while futzing with the other, then swap and repeat which really speeds up cranking out RPi boot TransFlash cards. The minimum power is also a benefit when used as a data thumb drive in the Raspberry Pi itself as well as the added safety of being so tiny it's hard to accidentally knock off while handling. Just having one about also makes MicroSD/TransFlash card transfers to my tablets and mobile phone quick and cable free. The pair on my keychain hold a huge library of my favorite music and the other the file I refer to most often, some books and a movie or two. That is what I tell folks, and there is some truth to that, but the whole truth is the Boot/RootKit on each, one for Fedora variants like Red Hat and the other for Debian variants like Ubuntu. Some Window PC user locked themselves out or scrumed their drive or whatever boot issue it's like Houdini's kestered jailhouse key - I sit down without any apparent tools, secretly pop this in a USB port and turn on the equipment. Wow! It works! I'm a golden wizard. A few keystrokes in the right directory and they are back up and running! You did remember to back-up right? I also use it as just a thumb-drive with super TF/SD powers. As a sneaker net it comes in handy for my LP turntable which will record an .mp3 to the drive until the needle is lifted. Each file is sequential like Record0001.mp3, how can the turntable guess that song? So cutting a side is easier, but I find capturing individual tracks labor intensive. So while one is in the turntable filling with .mp3's the other is in my laptop getting edits for the correct title and other catalog info. Then the files are archived on my external 3TB drive and the TF card slips into my phone for the bluetooth ride. The great feature of FCR-MRG2 is also it's biggest drawback - it is so tiny it is easy to forget and leave behind. Don't detach it from your keys at a friend's house and you can't drive away without it. I have small carabiners in the lanyards on my desk so they attach to the laptop dock lock as where the reside when not in use. The lanyard knot makes the card tough to remove. that's good on your keychain but a slight bend on the desk pair makes swaping easier. I always keep the chamber clean with a card loaded so lint doesn't collect in the slot and five years and counting they continue to perform flawlessly. I'd like to see one upgrade: FCR-MRG3 an identical tiny sleeve TF/microSD adapter to speedy USB3. I'll buy six when those come out.

Handles SDXC

Found some info on the Kingston site indicating that this item handled SDXC. I had an older one that doesn't. Gave this is a shot, works great.

Smallest microSD Card Reader Ever!

I've been using these Kingston readers for about 5 years now. I carry it on my keyring and found that they will simply stop working after a couple of years. No big deal since they are relatively inexpensive. Very handy to have a place to store data that hardly takes up any space. Highly recommended.

Works well

Very tiny, works well. Price is good too. However it's so tight, I had difficulty to remove the SD card after reading.

Fast and easy way to transfer files and images to my computer. Compact reader attaches to keychain so it never gets lost unless you lose your keys. I trust Kingston for their consistently dependable quality products.

I bought 5 of these and will buy more ..

I've settled on class-10 microSD cards (Fat32) to host my mobile digital content - music, photos & movies. I don't like handling microSD cards - too small for my paws - so I like to 'store' them in these USB microSD card readers. They will connect to any computer directly or to my Nexus using a 6-inch OTG cable (male microUSB to female std-USB). The bottom line, these card readers allow me to access my microSD media from any of my media devices.

Tiny and "upgradable"

This tiny microSD card reader is replacing the previous tiny thumb drive I kept in my wallet. I like this one because it will be easily upgradable. I have a 16gb microSD card it in right now but I plan to get a 64gb for it in the future, and I can do so without having to worry about a change in size. I keep a copy of Windows 7 installed on this drive for emergency boots, as well as installation files for lots of apps. The size is perfect for my uses.

Great mini reader

This is a great little product. I use it for holding music for rental car and home players. Small enough for a key chain.

Convenience

This SD card reader is great. Easy to store and does the job. I love the small and thin body. It comes with a string so I can attach it to my keys. I insert different SD cards into it for work, school and/or storing music and photos.

Another Great Kingston Product!

I was surprised that something so small could have an even smaller component (micro sd card) inserted and work so well.

Tiny, useful, cheap.

Now I'm not sure if it is the adaptor's connection with the USB port or the interface between the MicroSD and this part, but I have experienced a stubborn refusal to allow it to recognized or mounted. Which lasts up till I rub the contacts of both items down to remove carbon buildup
