This is the new BL-D7100N. I suspect the N was added because this product comes fully assembled without the need to attach the side plate to the bottom plate, and it has the KCS logo countersunk into the bracket. The pros are: it will allow access to the terminals on the camera while in vertical position. And it fits the D7100 and D7200 like a glove. But the bracket is far from complete compared to some universal brackets. Cons are, there is no safety catch screws for the vertical plate like they have on the bottom of the L bracket. And the bracket does not come with any safety screws to mount. Although it fits the camera like a glove, it does not fit all Arca Swiss type ball heads like a glove. The base plate is thick, and 1 full turn of a ball head's lock down knob will allow the camera to be removed. And, the safety catches on some ball head's plates may not work with this L bracket. As one who shoots a lot of panoramas and landscapes, I use a nodal rail in vertical position 80% of the time. And I had to mod my nodal rail and the L Bracket for a safety catch. And for it to fit my Ah2 ball head, I had to hack off some material so the safety tab could be used. I've used a universal Sunwayfoto DP-01 on my D7100 for over 2 years without need for hacks. It fit like a glove and no hacks were needed. But it couldn't access the termanals which was the only down side. With the Kirk L bracket, I had to hack it to work with all my support gear. Thus, the BL-D7100N can be a completely functional product with some minor hacks.

If you use a tripod, this is a must have.

This bracket is easy to attach, while still allowing access to the accessory covers. Your tripod will need an Arca-type ballhead in order to clamp onto this bracket. It is easy to use and change from horizontal to vertical positions.

My husband just got a D7100 and I bought the Kirk L-bracket for him because I really like the one that I have on my D800. The L-bracket is very sturdy and attaches firmly. It makes it a breeze to switch between landscape and vertical/portrait shooting without adjusting your tripod. This also provides a much more balanced and sturdy setup than using the drop notch on your tripod head. The bracket design does not interfere with access to the battery door or card slot. The only minor issue is that it is a bit difficult to open the rubber access doors on the left side for the USB/mic/HDMI. I'd give maybe a half star off for that- otherwise, it does just what it is supposed to do. Definitely recommended!

A little pricey for what you get but this is a high quality item.
