Questions & Answers

Pedro Alberto S : I am a mexican résident can i appli with PayPal for the 4 installments, thru will be shipped to Hidalgo, TEXAS?
Lisa S : Hi again, I am interested in finding out if this film is "C41"? so I can get it processed at a Photo Finish Lab. Let me know, LisaMICHAEL G : Tri-X is not C41 type film. You'll need to either develop it yourself or take it to a professional photo lab. BW400CN made by Kodak is a C41 type B&W film that can be processed at most photo labs.LOU N F : C41 is a color process. 400tx is bw film. it is not c41 and cannot (should not) be processed this way. kodak sells a bw c41 process film but it's not as crisp looking + the prints made from it are muddier looking than true bw film.. go with the real deal. you can still get your bw film processed at many labs.JAMES N : Hi Lisa This film does not use the C41 process. Ilford does provide a C41 based black and white film.GEORGE L : No 400TX is regular film - you have to develop it yourself. However you can buy kodak BW400CN which is C-41, but it's only offered in 35mm sizes. Fortunately, Ilford has Chromogenic black and white film (C-41) called XP-2 Super, in both 35 mm and 120. Hope this helps.JAMES F : No, this is not a C41 type film. This film is developed in B&W chemistry.Bob A : NO NO NO. Tri X is a b&W film and Must be processed in a blacxk & white developer ONLY. The c-41 you mentioned is a color developer and will not work. Think Kodak used to make a B&W film that could be processed in C-041 but don't try this with Tri X.DEVON C : No, it is not able to be processed in C41 chemistry. Will only work with black and white developer. If you are looking for black and white film that is able to be developed via C41 process, search for Ilford XP2 Super.TOM H : Tri x is one of the all time great b&w films. It must be devloped with a traditional b&w developer not c41.ALLEN F : No. Tri-x is an old fashioned black and white emulsion.MARK G : No it's not. The Kodak BW400 CN is, and it is excellent. Unfortunately they no longer produce it in Medium Format.JOSE C. F : hello! I don't know if is C41. process the film myself and then digitalized with a scanner.ROBERT K : this is NOT C-41 (which is the process for color negative film). Tri-X is black and white negative film and requires black and white processing.DANIEL F : No. C-41.is color film. You must use a black and white developer with Tri-x.BRUCE M : No, this is NOT suitable for c41 drugstore etc processing. TriX uses a standard black & white film developer like D76 or Xtol.MIKE T : NO! I get my film processed at North Coast Photographic Services and they do excellent work.ANTHONY R : No, this is black and white film that must be processed using something like D76 developer. Some large photographic labs still do this, but usually by mailing it in to them. It is not C41 which you can get processed at some small camera shops, pharmacies like Walgreens or CVS, or Costco.BRIAN T : No. This is traditional black and white film that cannot be developed using the C-41 process. You want Kodak 400CN for B&W using C-41 processing.NATASHA D : No this is not a C41 film. I have to send it away to a professional photo lab to get my negatives developed and sent back to me. A drug store will not develop this film.JOHN M : Hi! This is not C41 film. You might be able to have it developed in a Photo Finish lab, but you should really take your time and make fine work with this. Try to find a photo lab that produces fine art prints and negatives or… invest in the equipment and chemicals you need to develop it at home. This is easier than you think, saves you money and you can control the contrast yourself. Many places sell all the gear and chemistry you need. The rest is up to you. If you have a light-tight space, like a closet, you can load the film onto reels, put it in the can and then develop the film in your kitchen or bathroom. Good luck and have fun!CHRISTOPHER S : This is not C-41. This is standard black & white film, one of the best in the industry. This 5-pack is 120 medium format so any place that develops medium format film will be able to develop it. If you have a "Photo Finish Lab" in mind, they would be able to develop it. C-41 film in 35mm may be developed at a local drug store like CVS or Walgreens, but they only develop 35mm.WILLIAM K : No.

My all time favorite black and white film.

Tri-x has been around for almost 70 years for a reason. The tones and contrast it produces are why I keep coming back to this film. The classic grain is truly timeless. There's never been a time that I've regretted loading a roll of Tri-x for a shoot.

Why I love tri-x

I've been shooting with tri-x for almost 30 years-and for good reason. It is a very versatile film, and I have pushed it with good success. Good density negatives with nice grain, even when pushed to 3200. If you don't like a stronger contrast or a bit of grain in your film then maybe look for something else like HP5. I always have some tri-x in the fridge ready to go. Even when expired it seems to do alright. I've shot 35 mm and 120 tri-x-and I've blown both the 35 mm and 120 negatives up to 20x30 " with great results.

Good all-around choice for B&W photographers

Traditional silver based film; predictable results. Home development easy; with right equipment. Takes a wide range of developers; good tonal latitude. Good choice for both beginner and pro. Priced right and always available.

The most classical black and white film

The Kodak Tri-X 400 is a wonder, you can push this film to more than 6400 ISO with dedicated developers, so using D-76 you can even shoot this film to 1600 ISO without a much bigger grain

The Tri-X 400 is a superb choice when looking for black and white film. Every roll I develop, I am surprised at how amazing the contrast is and how great the images are. I would absolutely recommend.

LONG Time Fan

My father was a pro photographer when Tri-X was first produced, and I’ve been using and loving it since I was 7 years old — before it came out in roll film. ASA 400 was quite the big deal then. Has been my favorite for seventy years, and I am very happy it’s still going strong in the market. It’s my go-to film still to this day!

400 Tri-X Forever!

Kodak Tri-X 400 Film is best for that classic look, and due to it great pull and push capability. Pair it with XTOL, D-76, or Diafine Developers. A great film that is forgiving for even the most novice of beginners and it is used by some of the industries greatest photographers.

The classic rock 'n' roll film

A classic. The film that documented the 60s and 70s. I shoot concerts with it. If you don't like grain, buy T-Max instead. If you like images with character, high tonal contrast, wide latitude, & great edge contrast, buy the one and only Tri-X.* *Ilford HP-5 is similar but less contrasty. You should try it too.

Go i20

If you are keeping film alive, you are probably doing your own processing. If so switch to 120 format. Better resolution and easier to process than 35mm.

About Kodak Tri-X Pan 400, Five Pack of TX 120 Black & White Negative Film

FEATURED REVIEWS

I have been using TRI-X for over forty years and it has never let me down

By BRUCE H.

I have been using TRI-X for over forty years and it has never let me down. Whatever developer you use the grain in TRI-X will deliver negatives for you that is beyond category. This is the film which became so popular and famous in the 20th century and most of the MAGNUM photographers were using it regularly. The two developers I have use for it are D76 and Rodinal or its equivalent. TRI-X has no equal.

TRI-X, my black and white film of choice

By ANTHONY M.

KODAK TRI-X has been my film of choice in 35mm using my LEICA M3 with 50mm 2.8 ELMAR for fifty years. I've never been disappointed, the film maintains the classic look that initially drew me to it. It produces the highly desired saturated black and subtle grey tones not possible with other film. I've recently purchased a used HASSELBLAD 500 CM with a 150mm f4 SONNAR CF T, the lens having been purchased from ADORAMA. The look from the 2 1/4 format is breathtaking. The images made with my LEICA...
