Review Summary

I bought the 8"x11" Kaiser Slimlite Plano Lightbox thinking it would be great for digitizing 8x10 negatives, but when I opened the box I discovered the dimensions referred to its EXTERNAL size, not the lighted panel, which is more like 6½"x8". The product seemed fine other than that, but out of fear that I would not be able to return it if I used it, I left it in the packing and returned it. I will order something larger next time.

Very pleased with this. Thin and light, with good balanced light. I would have thought at this price it would have included a simple sleeve to protect/store it, but it didn't. I ended up buying a separate one online, and luckily they don't cost much. Because of this I knocked off one star.

Use for digitizing 35mm slides with DSLR. The main problem I have with it is the touch sensitive power button. When viewing or adjusting slides or light intensity it is easy to tap off due to location and sensitivity. I have to set my slide template very carefully not to cover the power button. Also, it is difficult to arrive a the right power setting. A slide bar or adjustment wheel setting on the side would be easier to use. Otherwise, it is well built and has a nice even light at 5000K temperature.

A great light source for transferring film to digital. I recommend though the kit kaiser offers that includes several negative holders and a registration fixture. The color temp is correct and the shading is also good.

First, Let me say this is NOT an 8x11" Kaiser Slimlite Plano light box. Unless you consider the Logan A7A 4x5" Light Pad, a 6.25 x 5.75" Light Pad! I'm not trying to be cofusing or difficult, but it should be a simple task to compare two products, without moving any goal posts. The Logan A7A product uses the size of the white diffusing lens in it's name. By comparison, the Kaiser product's name is derived from it's exterior dimensions, Not by it's 6x9" lit diffusion lens. I had hoped to use the Kaiser product to make digital copies of a collection of 8x10 film originals, from when I used to shoot film as an advertising photographer. I was disappointed in the bizarre naming conventions. Other than this, I am beyond satisfied with this product, which comes with it's AC power adapter, unlike the Logan product.

Not sure where the specs came from but this unit has a CRI = 95. See the accompanied photos. Good light source so far. Not sure of the durability - it's pretty thin. I wish Kaiser had a carrying case (a hard carrying case would of been preferred). I even emailed the manufacturer but they just said to use a 3rd party case. I use this lightbox for slide digitizing. It works well for this purpose. We'll see how it holds up.

Good for digitizing transparencies - Lightbox specs need to be updated

New Lightbox

very good!
At only 8 mm height Kaiser's new light boxes are not "boxes" any more. They are flat as a pancake, but feature perfect specifications for viewing, sorting and digitizing slides and other transparent originals. Their prime performance with respect to color rendition and uniform illumination are combined with compact design, various power supply possibilities and adjustable brightness.
