Good Product
As long as you read the provided instructions, this retriever works great. It?s not difficult to use, and after a while, muscle memory will take over.

Does the job.
Does the job, takes a couple times to get the hang of how this works but once you get it, it's pretty damn simple.

Worked for Me
It took a few tries but it did the job and retrieved my film leader. There is a little bend at the end of the top metal retrieval strip; I saw a couple of reviews suggesting their strip was damaged in shipping or when they tried to use it, but that?s the way it was designed. I?m glad to have it in my bag of film tricks.

It will work, keep trying!
Does exactly what it's supposed to do, once you learn to use it. I can't stress enough how important it is to read, re-read, and understand the instructions as you use the retriever for the first time(s). Look at the pictures, too. Make sure you haven't inserted it upside down, like I initially did. Make sure you keep your thumb on the spool when you are supposed to. It took me about 7 tries before I was able to pull a leader, but subsequently it's been no problem.

Film and time saver
I was an idiot and rewound the leader on 2 rolls of film while trying to load my camera. This thing paid for itself because I was able to fish the leader back out on both rolls! I've now started using it in the darkroom--no more cutting the leader in the dark and no more film flying everywhere. I simply pull it out with this retriever, snip it, then turn out the lights and process my negatives.I watched a YouTube video to figure out how to use it. I highly recommend the product, it's a big time saver in the darkroom and insurance if you're like me and mess up loading film sometimes. :)

Difficult to use
I found a video online showing how to use this product. The video made it look easy, but in practice it took me multiple attempts to retrieve the leader. Maybe it just takes practice. There are other products out there, but I have not tried them, so I don't know if they are better or worse than this product. Also, this product is not very sturdy, and came apart when I was using it. It snapped back together, but I'm sure it will come apart again. Overall, I am disappointed with this product.

Not a fan
I followed the directions very carefully and could not get it to work the way it was supposed to. I managed to badly kink a couple of rolls with it and quickly replaced it with Adorama's humble stainless steel retriever. The plastic film is not strong enough and easily kinks. The housing quickly separated and made things even more difficult. I cannot recommend this retriever. Get the SS one instead. Not only does it work perfectly, it's half the price.
