The USBPre 2's preamplifiers share a topology with Sound Devices' award-winning 744T Digital Audio Recorder. With peak limiters, high-pass filters, and a 15 dB pad, this device offers superior overload protection. All analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversions are performed by the USBPre 2, guaranteeing superior audio performance.
The USBPre 2 is a class-compliant audio device, allowing for effortless plug-and-play connection to computers running Mac OS, Windows, and Linux. No drivers are required for installation, and all additional controls and settings are conveniently located on the back panel DIP switches. The USB port also powers the unit, whether connected as an audio interface or used in Stand-Alone operation.
For maximum output connectivity flexibility, the USBPre 2 includes a variety of output connection types, such as balanced mic- or line-level on XLR, unbalanced consumer line-level on RCA, S/PDIF coaxial (RCA), and optical (Toslink). Each output has its own dedicated front-panel level control, allowing you to connect to powered loudspeakers, hi-fi systems, or use the coaxial S/PDIF output in Stand-Alone mode for a portable microphone preamplifier with digital output.
The USBPre 2 also features a 23-segment, multicolor LED meter for precise level indication, switchable between input signal metering and playback signal metering. This device can also operate in Stand-Alone mode, functioning as a high-quality, portable microphone preamplifier and analog-to-digital converter.
