Barebone and mini PCs are either stripped-down or very small computers that are typically as powerful as a full-sized device. Mini PCs can be as small as a paperback novel, while barebone computers come with just the basics installed.
Barebone Computers
A barebone PC is a computer that has almost all its parts preinstalled but not all of them. This type of PC usually includes a case, motherboard, a power supply, and a processor. You almost always need to add memory and a storage solution like an SSD or a hard drive, and they usually don’t include a copy of Windows or another operating system.
Mini PCs
A mini PC is exactly what it sounds like. These devices are as powerful as a typical desktop computer, but they take up far less space. A mini PC gives you everything you need for everyday computing in a package smaller than a game console.
Built for Entertainment and Work
A mini PC is an excellent choice for a media center computer. The compact size allows it to fit in your entertainment unit alongside your cable box or Blu-ray player. Intel offers models that support 4K video output and 7.1 digital audio, so a computer like this would feel right at home in a high-end entertainment system.
A small-form-factor computer is also a perfect solution to save valuable desk space at the office. More than just a space-saver, a mini PC equipped with a modern processor can handle almost any task. You can even attach some models to the back of your monitor.
Thin Clients
Not everyone that uses a computer for work needs a full-power computer to do their job. Thin clients are an affordable alternative to deploying desktop PCs for basic computing functions, such as operating a cash register or data entry. They are also more secure than traditional computers because they don’t use local storage to save your files.
Cloud-Connected
A thin client can give you access to all the core functionality of a traditional computer in a low-powered, network-connected device. Thin clients do all their heavy processing in the cloud. The device is simply a gateway to the cloud interface.
Thin client computers have multiple USB ports for all your peripherals, and they often support multiple display outputs to connect two monitors.
