Ways to Save

Whether you’re printing documents, photographs, or marketing materials, inkjet printers provide a simple, affordable alternative to laser printing. Inkjet printers use liquid ink made of pigments to apply tiny droplets of color onto paper and other printing substrates.

Most inkjet printers have an individual cartridge for each color. Basic printers may feature four colors including black, magenta, cyan, and yellow, while more complex inkjet printers can use as many as eight to ten colors.

Because each color in an inkjet printer has its own cartridge, you can replace cartridges as they run out. It’s a good idea to have a spare cartridge on hand for each color so you can swap them as needed and print without interruption.

Standard vs High-Capacity Inkjet Printer Cartridges

Most inkjet cartridges come in two styles: standard capacity and high capacity.

Standard-capacity inkjet printer cartridges make sense if you print infrequently. If you tend to go months without printing, you may find that your ink cartridges dry out, so a standard-capacity cartridge prevents you from wasting ink.

If you print regularly, a high-yield or high-capacity cartridge is a better option. They may cost a bit more up front, but the investment often pays for itself when you’re printing more often.

Checking Inkjet Cartridge Compatibility

Inkjet printers are designed to work with specific cartridges and ink formulas for the best printing results.

Some third-party brands offer ink cartridges for popular printers at a heavily discounted rate. While these cartridges may save you money initially, they rarely include the precise ink formula your printer needs for best operation. They may even damage your printer in the long run.

Save Money with Cartridge Multipacks

Purchasing multipacks of inkjet cartridges is a helpful way to save money while avoiding the headache of running out of ink. Full-color sets contain one cartridge of each color, while duplicate color sets include multiples of your most commonly used colors.

Archival Inkjet Printing

When printing photographs, it’s important to select a printer and ink formula designed for longevity and your preferred paper type. Many high-end photo printers feature two black ink tanks: one for matte paper and one for glossy.
