So you switch the camera on/off with the main switch and then switch the battery grip on if you want to use the camera in portrait mode with the grip.COREY B : No, the power switch on the grip is simply to turn the grip’s controls on and off. You can have a battery in the grip and the grip off and the camera will still operate.JULES D : The power switch around the shutter release on the grip does not power the camera on and off. It essentially just turns the buttons on and off on the grip. The camera will still recognize the grip and use it for power regardless of the grip's switch position.PHILLIP S : the camera switch has to be on for the grip power switch to work, leaving the grip switch off can be a benefit as it sometimes seems to hit your hand or clothing, taking unwanted frames, not a big deal thought. but yes both switches must be on for the camera and grip to function.
