CHEF I : can i use this on noctilux along with voigtlander close focus VM adapter for my Sony a7R?JOHN W : P.S. Leica doesn't recommend using any close focusing adapters on lenses that have floating elements as you will degrade the image sharpness. By design the new FLE Leica lenses are not designed, nor intended to be used with adapters or spacers.JOHN W : I have am A7R and use the VM adapter and the leica macro adapter in combination together with two leica prime lens, the 90 Macro- Elmar f4 M(new) and the 35 1.4 summilux (new) and have experienced no problems with the combined stack. The VM doesn't have the buttery smoothness of the helicoid of the Leica ( may just be a question of lubrication on the Voigtlander), as an "issue" travel is not nearly as significant with the short throw of the VM( although it covers a lot of needs for that little extra extention). Together with PS 6 ( a must have) , i would dial in i.e. use the optical algorithmic that is offered in that program ( start in bridge, open to camera raw and then got to optical settings) to flatten out any field curvature or color fringing that may occur that may not be apparent to your eye. Remember that field lenses, like the Noctilux and Summilux are designed primarily for focusing at distances further out, like infinite and that the functional design use of this noctilux is not designed to be be used the way you proposed. Given the above, i would head on into it and see what you get and hopeful you will be more than pleased, given that the glass is ground to be sharp edge to edge and not just center sharp. The closer focus and closeup combo should produce extraordinary results. Best of luck. John

The ONLY one to buy

This Leica Macro Adapter is specifically designed for the 90mm F4 Elmar. This macro adapter can be attached and just left on the lens. In the unextended position, both adapter and front lens set unextended, you can use the lens for field focus (all the way out to infinite) as well as a limited amount of macro extension. IF you need full macro, twist and extend the the front of the lens and that will give you maximum edge to edge sharpness and close focus. Personally, this is my favorite lens (with adapter attached set up) because of its combined, so versatile, very light weight and range of use. ( i own 5 new FLE, coded, M lenses) The adapter can be used with all of the new M glass with the coding and that info will be recorded by the camera so you know in PS what lens and F stop you used. I have this attached to a SL2 body (vis a via Leica's SL to M adapter) and the lens data is transferred automatically. The Macro adapter, used on any other lens other than the 90 Elmar for close focusing is not recommended, ALL other Leica M lens are not designed for maximum performance with the adapter and you will experience degraded sharpness and lens. You may want to use that quality as a creative effect, but don't expect the adapter to give you something it is not designed for. Best of Luck. Make Great Art!

The Leica Macro-Adapter for M-Mount Lenses is placed between the camera and M-mount lens to increase the lens-to-sensor distance and achieve maximum reproduction ratios up to 1:2 for close-up shooting. Its design incorporates a helical screw system, which can be used to vary the adapter's extension length between 0.7-1.2" for greater flexibility in setting a closer focusing distance than the lens natively allows as well as increasing the reproduction ratio. The adapter is designed for use on Leica cameras featuring a live view function (such as the M Type 240) and lenses with focal lengths greater than 28mm.

Leica Macro-Adapter for M-Mount Lenses Features

  • Increases lens-to-sensor distance, shortens minimum focusing distance and helps to achieve greater reproduction ratios for close-up shooting
  • Helical system permits a variable extension length between 0.7-1.2"
  • Specifically designed for the Leica Macro-Elmar-M 90mm f/4 lens, this adapter provides a 1:2 reproduction ratio, with a minimum focusing distance of 16.1" and infinity focusing can be maintained with the lens in its collapsed position
  • When used on lenses with focal lengths of at least 50mm, reproduction ratios of 1:2 can be achieved. With wider lenses, larger ratios are possible. It is not recommended for use on lenses with focal lengths wider than 28mm
  • Compatible with Leica M cameras featuring a live view function, such as the M Typ 240
