The clamp ring due to the width, is finicky to adjust so that it does not impead the Laowa 100mm macro f/2.8 lens adjustment rings. Do not loosen the collar too much when adjusting, especially if the camera and lens is off horizontal. Do not tighten down until free operation of the lens f stop and focus rings. Otherwise, the operation is easy and holds a Nikon Z 72 camera and the lens securely. A clamp foot (in my case, Arca-Swiss) can be bolted to the foot. For the price, it is OK.

Got this as part of a bundle and, for me, it?s kind of pointless. My camera (Canon R6) and this lens feel about the same weight. I think the lens is actually a bit lighter. The mounting hole on this collar is also only about 1? in front of the one on the camera itself. Add to these issues the fact that when this is on the lens it makes adjusting the aperture a bit more cumbersome and I really don?t see the point or need for it.

I've seen a bunch of nonsensical reviews of this collar elsewhere so I thought I'd clarify some things. I think it's actually magnesium alloy and not plastic (felt cold upon first touch, in the tropics), feels solid enough and not brittle. Mine is actually slightly scratched in two different places where you can see the metal underneath (one was my own fault)... Anyway, I've also seen some people complaining it doesn't fit their lens because they seemingly can't get it past the aperture ring. You can force it past that if you try hard enough, but you don't have to, pull on the locking knob and pull it apart and the whole collar opens up like two Cs! It's actually got a spring under the knob for this. Comes with safety stops installed on the foot and a hex tool to remove them btw. I'm knocking one star because I'm not sure if it's by sample or so of them but the lens is slightly wobbly on the collar and can actually tilt up/down a little, which kinda defeats it's purpose to an extent if you want it for accurate macro work on a rail etc. I'm gonna call Adorama about this and/or try fixing it with some cork padding. The collar does have it's own strips of padding but they're very thin and I can see a sliver of daylight between it and the lens in one place besides at the hinge (where there's no padding so you expect that). The knob is captive btw... I think that about covers it, oh and mine DOES have Arca Swiss dovetails so it's entirely possible there's been a revision of this collar, Laowa should probably advertise that as the lack of Arca Swiss compatibility seems to be a common complaint and I'd even bought a plate to put on it.

This collar works for macro use on the 100mm 2:1 but, It is plastic and there can be some flex. Hasn't been an issue yet as once the rig is set on the RRS macro rail it really doesn't change position so there is no reason for whatever flex there is to change. It does tighten very snugly around the lens but can be loosened for rotation. Of course, you have to add an Arca plate to the bottom but the big brands are still clueless about that as well. Probably for the best in this case anyway, since it is plastic.
