They’re bright enough to create the illusion of daytime lighting even when shooting at night. HMI lighting types

HMI lighting and plasma lights come in a few distinct varieties depending on your budget. Kits, single units, fresnel lights, and par lights are the main types, and each has different features.

1. HMI kits and single HMI units

HMI kits and single HMI units are great choices for large studio productions requiring lots of light. Kits often include multiple fixtures and required accessories, like ballasts, power supplies, and stands. Single HMI units can expand existing HMI kits.

2. Fresnel lights

A fresnel light uses a tempered glass fresnel lens to better amplify the light output from the bulb. The fresnel lens features ridges that reflect and refract the light. Because they create such a powerful and concentrated beam of light, they are typically used in lighthouses. However, the film and theater industries also use them.

3. Par lights

Par lights are known for creating a narrow beam of light, so they’re ideal for illuminating a single performer. Par lights are commonly used in theater but are also very useful in film and television. Many of the available par fixtures include ballasts, barn doors, and light stands.
