When you want incredibly smooth, even lighting without concern of hotspots or vignetting, it’s difficult to beat LED light panels. You can use LED light panels to simulate window light, to stand in as an overhead lighting source, or to evenly illuminate a photographic background without worrying about shadows and fall-off at the edges.

The Perfect Size and Shape for Any Shoot

Light panels come in a variety of sizes, from compact LED lights that fit in the hot shoe of your camera to large-scale options measuring three feet across or more. Some brands even offer flexible LED panels so you can more effectively customize and shape your lighting.

If you’re shooting a single model or a compact table top subject, you can usually use a single smaller light panel. For large-scale shoots like an automotive or location shoot featuring studio sets, consider investing in multiple large format light panels for greater success.

While most light panels are rectangular in shape, recent additions to the LED market add circular disk-style LED light panels. Many photographers prefer circular panels for a more attractive catch light in their subject’s eyes.
