What is Lighting Truss?

Lighting truss, also known as stage truss, is a structural support system designed for hanging lighting and sound equipment, drapery, video projectors, and other live event gear. Traditionally made of aluminum and steel, sections of truss are combined into large freestanding, structural systems.

Components of a Truss System

To build a safe and sturdy truss structure, you’ll need a few different components including truss ladders, chords, bolt-plate connections, and base plates.

Common Lighting Truss Shapes

Lighting truss segments come in a few different shapes to suit a range of artistic and design needs. Triangular truss, square truss, and circular truss are the most common shapes, but you can also find I-beam truss segments and T-junctions.

Different Types of Truss Stands

For heavy lighting setups, it’s common to use truss segments as both the uprights and the spanning truss. However, if you’re using a smaller setup, you can use truss stands as uprights. Truss stands are similar to tripod-style lighting stands, but they can bear heavier loads.

Crank stands simplify any light hang so you don’t have to spend time hanging lights from a lift. Just load a spanning truss on two crank stands, hang all of your light fixtures, and raise the spanning truss into position with the cranks.

Select a motorized tower lifter for an even more precise and efficient truss setup.
