I sat on this for a while but I finally moved on it and it's a must-have for the optical spit system. You have compete control over the "circle" size and don't have to move your lighting or subjects to compensate. It seems well built and all metal.

These work fine for their intended purpose, to shape light.

Does it work? Yes. In fact, once it's placed in the gobo slot it works nicely. But it's a very convoluted device with 2 main parts: a filter holder and a screw cover so the filter is held securely. Sounds simple, no? The screw on piece has two recessed depressions, ostensibly for fingers to get a grip while screwing/unscrewing. A much better design would have been ANYTHING else. A simple press fit cap? A cover with a tab that fits a slot on the holder? A spring tab (a la lens cap style)? A leko-type slip in metal piece? I think they just want you to buy a bunch of these gobo holders since they are not quick to interchange filters. I'll resort to jury-rigging holders for my variety of gobos & gels.

Kinda of a hassle to open and place the gobo in but nothing else out there to substitute

Works as advertised. Takes a little time to tweak and find the desired results. But it is not a painful process. This is the only accessory that is easy to insert and remove. Maybe all the other accessories should have the same wide and long handle.

Blades allow a certain amount of control. Only real problem is that they are built on a square and the area in which they are employed is interrupted on a triangle. Otherwise, do what they say, and can be gotten quite small.

Makes it possible to use standard M gobos, as well as home-made versions of aluminum flashing, plastic such as that used in cheap pocket portfolios, etc. For some gobos (the MagMods, for example) it is not necessary, but it solves other problems.

Well made and functions smoothly. Maybe not as small a final aperture as some, but perfectly workable.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do, sturdy.

Two opposite sides of the barn doors have three pieces to concentrate the light where you need it.
