About Sound Devices External FireWire 5x DVD-RAM Drive

The XL-DVDRAM is an external FireWire (-1394a) optical drive for use with Sound Devices 7-Series Digital Recorders. Based on the Panasonic UJ-85 Multi-drive mechanism (5x DVD-RAM) the XL-DVDRAM drive becomes an available storage volume for either direct recording or file copying to a 7-Series recorder. The XL-DVDRAM is bus powered directly from the FireWire port of the 7-Series recorder. No additional power source is required. In addition to its application when connected to a 7-Series recorder, the XL-DVDRAM can be used as an external FireWire or USB optical drive with Mac OS and Windows computers.
