Review Summary
Glass: Anti-corrosion
46mm
Anti-Reflective, Hydrophobic
With the 46mm IR/UV Cut Color Correcting Hot Mirror Lens Filter, you can enhance your photography experience by capturing images with true-to-life colors. This specialized filter, also known as a lowpass filter, is designed to block infrared light and certain UV rays, making it an ideal companion for a full spectrum converted camera.
Our hot-mirror filters are designed with a unique anti-reflective, corrosion-resistant coating, which not only reduces artifacts but also enhances the filter's durability, especially in humid regions. Please note that this coating is available for filters up to 82mm in size.
This filter stands out as it's specifically designed for use with a full spectrum or two spectrum converted camera, mimicking the transmission of the hot mirror filters typically found in cameras. Its design ensures that all regular white balance presets remain functional, allowing for normal use of the camera.
Unlike other hot mirror filters that are clear, our filter is blue, mirroring the shade of original lowpass filters found in cameras. This color is a visual confirmation that the filter is effectively blocking the same wavelengths.
Our filter uses absorption, not interference, to block light. This means that the color will remain consistent, regardless of the angle of incidence, eliminating the color changes on wide angles around the edges that you might experience with other filters like the B+W 486.
Our filter is designed with aggressive IR blockage to prevent IR leak on all camera models. It also offers more UV transmission than many cameras, making it ideal for outdoor use. For optimal results, it is recommended to pair it with a UV filter or use it over our two spectrum conversion.
A full spectrum camera, without a filter, will produce images that appear very red. However, with our hot mirror filter, you can capture regular pictures with accurate color performance. For a comparison of results, refer to the samples provided at the bottom of the page, showcasing images taken with a normal camera, a full spectrum camera without a filter, and a full spectrum camera with our filter and two popular hotmirror filters, the Tiffen Hot Mirror and B+W 486 UV/IR cut filter. All pictures were taken with auto white balance.
In conclusion, the 46mm IR/UV Cut Color Correcting Hot Mirror Lens Filter is a valuable addition to your photography gear, designed to deliver superior color rendition and durability.
