The optical engineers have integrated no less than 12 glass lens elements in the new Leica NOCTIVID models to achieve viewing excellence that fulfills even the most stringent demands. SCHOTT HT (High Transmission) glasses ensure amazingly natural color rendition. The Leica NOCTIVID binoculars take advantage of a new high-temperature plasma deposition process for highest-quality lens coatings that guarantee perfectly balanced transmission characteristics throughout the entire wavelength range of visible light, which results in a breathtakingly bright and color-neutral viewing image.  Innovative baffle systems for the suppression of stray light guarantee optimum reduction of reflections and maximum contrast. The Leica Noctivid 10x42 binoculars are pretty awesome. Smaller and lighter than expected with outstanding optical clarity. I was using them to check out the moons of Jupiter the other night; so okay a 10x magnification is not a telescope, but I could make out the moons pretty well and it was really cool. Overall, these binoculars are just what I was hoping for. My only complaint is the eyecups are not comfortable, I would appreciate soft eyecups. I think the eyecups be replaced/upgraded. Also, the price is staggering; my work bought these for field use, it may be a long time before I get a pair to personally own.

Awesome compact binoculars

I couldn't determine what to do. My wife and I have used Leica for years (Trinovid 7x35, 7x42, and 8x40) and we've always been very pleased. Preparing for an African safari, we wanted to add power to what we had and upgrade to the state-of-the-art but I could not decide between the Leica and the Zeiss 10x42s. The great folks at Adorama let us purchase both with a 60-day return option through their VIP360 plan. We would test them ourselves and decide which was best.

We got the binoculars and they were both outstanding! My wife preferred the Zeiss and I, also, found them superior in ergonomics: lighter and easier to handle. However, I thought the Leica superior in contrast and color. 

End of story: we kept them both! We took them on safari and loved them! These are not as compact nor as light as our old 7x35s but they were the right stuff for this. One of the guides asked me if he could look through my Leica. "_Very_ clear," he said with a touch of awe in his voice.
