This is truly an extraordinary lens. It is what Leica optical are all about. Since acquiring it, the 75 has become one of my two "go-to" lenses. (the ohter is a 35mm APO- Summicron f2.)

If you want to wring every pixel out of your M9 this is the way to go. This is the sharpest 35mm lens I have ever used, but it does so in a pleasing way. Simply amazing. Get this an a 35mm Summicron and you will be able to get 93% of the pictures you want.

75mm Summicron ASPH

Extraordinary 75 MM Lens
By MICHAEL S.
This is truly an extraordinary lens. It is what Leica optical are all about. Since acquiring it, the 75 has become one of my two "go-to" lenses. (the ohter is a 35mm APO- Summicron f2.)
The new LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M 75mm f/2.0 ASPH is designed to be universal in its usage, as good at infinity as in the close range and at all apertures but its very natural rendering of details (very low distortion and vignetting) as well as its performance at open aperture and at close range make it particularly suitable for lively available light portraits or to isolate part of the picture when doing a reportage.
The very natural looking perspective of this focal length make beautiful portraits possible with a three-dimensional feel to them. Decisive image elements can be emphasized without the image losing its expression of true reality.
The optical performance is excellent at wide-open aperture. As the MTF curves show the contrast reproduction only slightly increases by stopping down. The closest focus distance is 0.7 m (27 in.) against 1m for the 90mm general-purpose lenses.
A new velvety matt finish makes the Leica APO-SUMMICRON-M 75mm f/2.0 ASPH immune to flare. Distortion is not a concern and barely visible in real life. Thus the images taken with this Summicron are as close to reality as you can get.
Outstanding close-up pictures are made possible via a floating element. This lens element changes its relative position to the rest of the optical system while focusing. The real challenge was to integrate this extra mechanism in the compact form of a lens whose mount was established in 1954 and whose silky focusing needed to be maintained. Both targets have been met.
All components are carefully matched to each other with passionate perfection and crafted meticulously by hand. This guarantees the consistent quality of every single lens.
Only high quality material, such as brass, aluminum and optical glass are good enough for Leica.
The new Summicron is comprised of seven lens elements in five groups, for which specific types of glass are used: glass with anomalous partial dispersion, fluorite glass, glass originating from the former Leitz glass laboratory, glass with a very high refraction index as well as an aspherical element.
