I too have had one since the 70's. In a pinch I've used my Nikons with this using delay to help let vibrations settle but it's more suited for my smaller cameras. I'm not sure why it's describe as a large ball head for it is just the opposite unless you consider it's extension only which actually only reaches the length size of a mid sized ball head. Contrary to another reviewer, I do like its extend base for I use mine on a lighter and shorter tripod for difficult treks and this length helps make up for the shorter extension.

The ball head has a clever design that works beautifully. After you screw it on the tripod, you loosen the knob and twist the knurled wheel to screw it into the camera base. The same knob is used to let one control the orientation of the camera. It could not be simplier. And of course, the build is typical Leice quality.

The Leica Large Ball and Socket head must be one of the oldest products sold by Adorama. It will continue to be around for a long time to come. Cameras, lenses, tripods come and go, but this baby stays with you. Timeless. Why? Because it makes you better! Fast, nimble, and secure, it also makes a great camera grip. Great on a chestpod or mini table tripod and a perminent fixture on my monopod. Great with midsized digital slrs with medium telephoto lenses and down.

Bought this Leica Table Top and Tripod head in the early 1970's! It worked well then, and it still works well. Great product whose only drawback is the extra long base height - while it's good for table top shooting, it takes up more space than necessary on a standard tripod. After all these years - it is still an outstanding tripod head and worth the price.
