Hood pops off and damages the barrell

I got this to use on my 35cron ASPH, but the latch mechanism does not secure to the camera well and fall off at the slightest bump. If you plan on actually using your summicron in the streets, this hood will keep pop off and may damage your lens barrel in the process. As far as the good side, on the ASPH it does not rotate, and the rubber lens cap has been good so far.

Rediculous Price

Adorama has the best deal, but at ($), this rectangular lens hood & cap for the 35 'cron is absurdly expensive. There's nothing special about the quality, construction or finish for this item... I'm replacing the original Leica hood that fell apart. Unfortunately, there's no other game in town.

Sturdy, low profile - works on LTM ASPH

I bought this for a 35mm Summicron ASPH in LTM. The LTM version comes with a round hood that Leica sells for $300 as a replacement part if it ever gets damaged. The only issue with the round hood is that it intrudes more into the viewfinder frame of my M7 0.85. So, I bought this hood which goes with the M mount version of the Summicron ASPH. I can understand why Leica offers the round hood, as the thread mount lens my end up at an unusual angle after mounting (with or without an adapter), or when used on an LTM camera. However, my lens ends up with the indexes at 12:00 on my cameras (M7, Canon 7s), so this is my preferred hood for this lens.

Small, unobtrusive, doesn't rotate

I bought a Summicron 35 ASPH in LTM that came with the round 12504 hood. Surprisingly, for a vented hood, with the 12504 there is some viewfinder cutoff at the bottom right corner, from the hood. Also the 12504 requires an almost unobtainable front cap, or a 58mm Nikon style lens cap. Lastly, the replacement value of the 12504 from Leica is $300! Hence, I purchased this hood instead. It is flexible rubber/plastic. The lens already has the alignment notches to prevent the hood from rotating. The hood rests a lot closer to the lens than the 12504. There is still a bit of cutoff of the viewfinder bottom right corner. Others have claimed that the cap falls off easily, but I haven't had a problem with it so far. From my perspective, the $100+ cost of this hood is LESS than that of the 12504 hood. But realistically, it is still an expensive item! However, it seems well made and it is likely to last a lifetime.

Thanks to minor modifications in the lens hood, a redesigned protective cover made of a soft plastic material can be used, which is also very comfortable to carry along. The lens hood can also be used with the foregoing model SUMMICRON-M f/2/35 mm (order number 11310 or 11311). It can be reordered as a replacement (order number 12 526) and comes with the protective cover.
