Analog soul into technology

I have hesitated to jump into the digital M arena until this camera came onto the market. I love the film feel of this camera and the images are definitely reminiscent of using film in a M camera. For me the experience truly is like a film camera as I have not been able to connect through the Leica Fotos app. The support received for this has not been helpful as I keep getting emails that tell me to follow directions that came with the app. The app instructs me to update the camera firmware but I cannot find information on how to do this. The only instructions online are for the M10 or M10P. I assume this will eventually be worked out but it is a disappointment for such an expensive camera.

"Analogue soul with pro-capabilities, which will bring back the joy in your photography. Leica simplified my photo making process by stripping away the non-essential to photography with the Leica M10-D. The camera is a real pleasure to use, delivering super results, allowing me to stickily focus on the essentials, composition, and exposure."
Incorporating the latest imaging capabilities of Leica’s M-series cameras with more analog hardware, the M10-D Mirrorless Digital Rangefinder aims to provide a more straightforward shooting experience. It goes without the rear LCD screen—Leica’s major step in bringing back the simplicity of vintage cameras—and features minimal yet crucial controls for manual photography: shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and focus. Instead of a screen, the M10-D has a +/- 3 EV exposure compensation dial (which reminds us of Leica’s classic film ISO wheel) that has an outer ring where you can also find the on/off switch as well as a dedicated Wi-Fi shortcut. Another distinguishing characteristic of this Leica mirrorless camera is the integrated, fold-out thumb rest that is reminiscent of the traditional film advance lever in early analog M models but now adds grip and stability for prolonged one-hand shooting. Other operating features include the built-in, clear 0.73x-magnification optical viewfinder, manual rangefinder focusing mechanism, and an accessory shoe at the top of the camera. Captured photos can be viewed (and shared) via the new FOTOS app when connected to your smartphone or tablet. The M10-D also retains its quiet shutter and sleek black rangefinder body to allow photographers to shoot discreetly without drawing the attention of their subjects.
Leica is continuing to throwback to the basics with its newest release. The Leica M10-D combines the best of analog and technology to create an appealing hybrid setup. This addition to the M-family features a slim, stylish body with an exposure compensation dial — a first for the M-series. Most notably, the M10-D does not feature an LCD monitor and opts for a truly analog setup. But don’t worry, users can connect to the brand new FOTOS app to view and share photos with convenience.
Leica is promoting an old-school experience with this analog setup. As mentioned above, the M10-D lacks an LCD monitor to limit distractions for the shooter.....

The Leica M10-D brings the unique experience of analog photography back into the digital world. While modern photography encounters an overwhelming number of features and functions, the M10-D is a bold statement of a conscious focus on the essentials of both the philosophy and function of photography.
With no rear display, minimal yet effective controls, and an extremely quiet shutter, the Leica M10-D focuses on the desires of many photographers to concentrate solely on the act of making pictures. In place of the screen, it offers a mechanical on/off switch with dedicated Wi-Fi shortcut and a dial for direct control of exposure compensation.
The absence of a display makes the M10-D look much like its analog forebears, and an integrated fold-out thumb rest atop the camera completes the analog look while improving handling. Aesthetics aside, the Leica M10-D by no means limits itself to analog austerity. Its ability to pair with the Leica FOTOS App provides all the capabilities offered by a modern digital camera of superior quality and truly exceptional charm.
The Leica M10-D is the first digital M-Camera to feature a mechanical control element for exposure compensation. Instead of a monitor screen, the setting dial is located precisely where the earlier ISO setting wheel once lived and calls back memories of the days of analog photography.
The exposure compensation dial furthers the concept of having manual control of all essential exposure parameters, even when powered off, which began with the launch of the Leica M10.
A visual likeness to a analog cameras is further emphasized by the integrated, fold-out thumb rest of the Leica M10-D. In appearance, it recalls the iconic film advance lever of the analog M models and thus further reinforces the tangible analog photography experience.
Today, this homage to winding the film and cocking the shutter for the next exposure simply serves to improve the camera’s ergonomics and offers additional grip and stability – particularly when shooting one-handed and for longer periods.
Despite its intense concentration on an analog photographic experience, the M10-D is by no means limited only to this. It is up to the photographer to decide how much of the digital and analog experience should be balanced, by pairing the M10-D with the new Leica FOTOS App.
Despite its concentration on the essentials of analog-style shooting, the M10-D simultaneously fulfills all the requirements of a modern digital camera.
This includes fast and easy integration in the mobile digital environment by means of a Wi-Fi function, which can be activated directly and immediately with the on/off ring on the back of the camera.
The accessory shoe of the Leica M10-D is compatible with the high-resolution Visoflex electronic viewfinder, which also features an integrated GPS module that can geotag image files.
