This is ensured by the BSI CMOS sensor which has been specially developed for the Leica M11 generation – without colour filters and with extremely high sensitivity. It also gives you the freedom to choose between 60, 36 and 18 megapixel resolution at any time, as a RAW file in DNG format or as a JPEG. The M11 Monochrom boasts an expansive internal memory, a highly resistant monitor cover glass, and exceptional high ISO performance, offering you an elevated degree of creative freedom and flexibility. The monochrome sensor of the Leica M11 Monochrom provides significantly higher sharpness and brilliance compared to a color sensor of the same resolution. Since the sensor only perceives grayscales and has no color filters on the pixels, there is no need for color interpolation. This allows for the reproduction of details with the highest sharpness, making them stand out with higher contrast from their surroundings.
The absence of color filters also means that more light reaches the monochrome sensor, resulting in higher sensitivity and lower noise at the same nominal sensitivity. The M11 Monochrom features the best monochrome sensor ever made by Leica, offering higher resolution and better low-light performance for an impressive image quality.
This camera is the first to feature a BSI CMOS Monochrome sensor from Leica, with a native 60 Megapixel sensor to capture even the finest details. It also boasts the lowest base ISO of 125 ever in an M Monochrome, and an exceptional high ISO performance (up to ISO 200,000), providing the highest dynamic range to date in a Leica monochrome camera.
