Save your lens, money and be fashion
It was a great bargain to buy my Minolta 600mm F/4. So long I looked for it, but this used lens is hardly found in regular stores. I was lucky to be in NY when Adorama offered it for 1/3 less than the usual price. Condition was not good, but they said that the optics were clean, so I had to check. It was true, the lens had signs of heavy usage, white paint peeling, but the glass was flawless. Thanks to Simon that had the patience to allow me a detailed test in the store. Back home, I did many great images with it, enhancing the quality of my long telephoto shots with my Sonys A99 or A77.
That said, the LensCoat cover was all I needed to hide the scratches and protect the tube from further damage. Formerly I thought that this accessory would be just cosmetic or fashion, but now I realize that it is so much useful. Besides protecting, the cover is great for handling such a heavy lens, due to its cushioning effect, which also helps when you have to lay the lens on a hard surface.
The LensCoat is perfectly designed to fit the lens, which by the way is since long discontinued! Every detail was forethought. It is thick enough for protection, but still allows the lens to fit in the original case.
Thanks to the former owner of the lens, who did not provide a LensCoat cover for it. If he had done so, the lens tube would have kept in good shape, he would make 50% more in his sale and I would probably be still looking for that dreamed lens.
