Questions & Answers

Gretchen G : I have a 28, 50, 90 and 135 lens from my M3 and M5?. Can I use these on the ME or there a better model to use them on if any.?JOHN K : Although I have only used the 35 and 90 Summicron lenses on my M-E, I see no reason why your lenses should not work as well.ERSIN S : Yes, you can use your gear with ME. If you are looking for a better model, you could choose Leica M.JAMES M : Yes, the M-E will handle these lenses; if you add a screw-on viewfinder magnifer (1.25x) part no. 12 004, it will increase the magnification to 0.85x for the 50, 90, and 135mm lenses. This is what I did and the viewfinder is the same as my M5. You can also add a 1.4x magnifier, part no. 12 006, for your 90 and 135mm lenses and have a 0.95 magnification, the same as a M3 viewfinder. I did not buy the 1.4x magnifier because I do not own a 135mm lense..JAMES L : I would go with the leica m 240 over the m-e. Both take great pics but 240 has evf possibility + bigger battery and better sensor. I sold my m-e to buy m 240 btw. Thanks James L
Adam N : What's the expected waiting-time now? I heard a long wait-list for typ240; is that also to typ220?JOHN K : Last fall, there was no waiting for the 220.
Shopper : How does this model differ from the others? I realize that this model is cheaper and has 18 MP, but the M-P model has been upgraded with a better LCD screen made of a hard crystal.JOHN K : The M-P does have a harder glass screen but it is relatively more expensive. While I wouldn't call the M-E cheap it is the most affordable digital M currently available. Other than the screen, silver controls and the anthracite painted finish, the M-E has the same sensor and processor as the M 9 and M-P.

More sensible than the M9

As someone who takes photos primarily in available light, a rangefinder camera was the end goal when I had my start in photography. Moving from Canon SLRs to a Ricoh GXR w/ A12 mount and now ultimately the M-E I will say the M-E combines the best of both the previous systems. Focusing and shooting continuous in low-light are two critical aspects that I have been very pleased with so far, allowing me to ensure my photos are well-focused and with minimal shake. Photos taken in low-light with point lighting in the frame can turn out a bit underexposed. If you keep this in mind and increase EV by 1-2 stops in these scenarios you'll be fine, but it's something to keep in mind.

love it

so this is basically an m9 without a couple useless features. the color is great, muted, and subtle. the size is great. image quality is superb and isn't even that bad at 1600 iso...although 800 and below is where I try to use it most...with 160 pretty amazing. so the only caviet is getting past the "windows 98' ish experience" you'll have with the lcd...for the price, there is no excuse for the poor lcd, but once you laugh it off (out loud, likely) and move on it is a camera you wont want to put down.
