I previously had the SL2, and, while the 47mp was great if shooting at low ISO, I sort of felt like the extra pixels are garbage pixels once I got over ISO 800. Plus, I have to do composites for work, so I'd end up downsampling to 18mp or so anyway to make the layers manageable in photoshop. The SL2-S has much better ISO performance and the colors just look better. For my personal stuff, I have a wide format printer and print fairly large prints often. Even when considering cropping photos and printing large, I'd still choose the SL2-S over the SL2. When comparing to other brands, both the SL2 and SL2-S are great overall. They just adapt to anything. The Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L Tilt-Shift Lens works great on this camera with Sigma MC-21 adapter. That's my workhorse lens for my paid work. It feels like it's a native lens it's so seamless. I also use several M mount lenses on this body via the M to SL adapter. Using the user profiles, it's easy to have an M Lens profile that makes using them a breeze. For example, I have the back dial adjust ISO, the front dial adjust shutter speed, the aperture ring is on the lens . . .all key stuff at your fingertips. I have the joystick set to punch in magnification if you press it, so choosing focus point and then punching in to focus is one easy motion. . . and you can turn the front dial once punched in for an even stronger magnification boost. I still prefer my rangefinder for M glass since that focus accuracy doesn't matter if you're wide open or stopped down, but this is the next best thing. And you can definitely get better critical focus . . . it's just a little slower than a rangefinder for manual lenses. .. .but still better than any other camera I've tried with adapted M lenses. Leica seemed to really design this to work easily with M glass. I have some native SL lenses, the 50m APO Summicron and the 24-90 zoom. Both are great on this body and produce outstanding images. I mainly use them in my tiny studio I have set up because the native Leica glass are BIG lenses and not necessarily fun to lug around. For me, I tend to carry the body and a 35mm Summilux-M on it whenever I'm using it to document my family out and about because the SL lenses are so large. I've heard the 45mm Sigma is the best of both worlds.. .functions like a native Leica SL lens with a size that's smaller than an M lens and much much lighter when you figure in the weight of the M adapter also. . .so maybe consider that as a great first all around lens if you buy this camera.

I came back into the Leica fold post Hasselblad X1D. Decision was to upgrade the really sluggish X1D or move back to Leica. Similar to the X1D the SL2S is built like a tank, and I feel similarly nice in the hand. Despite being heavier it?s easy to carry around all day. The files coming out of the camera are outstanding. Obviously smaller, but the camera makes up in speed (way way a faster). Plus I can use my manual Leica and Zeiss M glass so overall despite the downgrading in pixels I am super happy. Great camera,

Fears no assignment
Both photographic and video journalism capture many faces and tell a wide variety of stories. Whether it is social or cultural topics, outdoor and nature photography or political reportage - the sheer range of topics places a multitude of ever-changing demands on the equipment they need.
Witnesses who push their limits when on assignment accept no limitations from their camera and video equipment. That's why the rugged Leica SL2-S Reporter is ready when you are. It withstands extreme temperatures, repels dust and water, and stands up well to rough handling. Its discreet design allows you to immerse yourself in the action - unobtrusively - for authentic, vivid photos and videos. The SL2-S Reporter follows the established tradition of Leica's Reporter-Design-Series, which is focused on one thing: documenting the variety of our world.
Aramid - protects with every fiber
It starts with a synthetic fiber that's so robust it's commonly used for personal protective equipment. Next, the fibers are spun so tightly that they are nearly impossible to separate. Woven in their characteristic pattern, the aramid fibers give the Leica SL2-S Reporter excellent protection, even under the most difficult conditions. They also offer an added benefit in terms of handling. The fibers provide a significantly improved grip - for even more safety when photographing and filming.
Resilient
The resilient and robust SL-System is brought to perfection in the Leica SL2-S Reporter. With its very scratch and fingerprint resistant matte green finish and aramid fiber armor, it sets a new standard in camera durability, while reliably protecting the SL2-S Reporter from external forces. The technical specifications of this edition are identical to the SL2-S series model. "Made in Germany" that translates to enduring quality for generations.
