At the heart of the Leica SL3 is the BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with Triple Resolution Technology, securely housed in a robust all-metal body adorned with elegant leather. This sensor offers the flexibility to record files in DNG or JPEG format with a resolution of 60, 36, or 18 MP, utilizing the full sensor surface in each case. Coupled with an expanded dynamic range of 15 f-stops and an impressive ISO range from 50 to 100,000, the SL3 delivers remarkably detailed images of superior quality under any lighting conditions.
The SL3's innovative autofocus system combines phase detection (PDAF), depth mapping (Object Detection AF), and contrast recognition (Contrast Detection AF) to deliver razor-sharp images even in low light. Intelligent subject recognition further enhances the capture of dynamic scenes.
The lens bayonet, based on the L-Mount standard developed by Leica, is compatible with a wide range of lenses from all Leica camera systems as well as ultra-wide to super-telephoto zoom lenses offered by L-Mount alliance partners. This ensures extensive system compatibility for the Leica SL3. The unique design of the image sensor and an external light sensor fully harness the exceptional potential of the renowned Leica M-Lenses, with integrated in-body image stabilization further expanding their application range.
The Leica SL3 features the EyeRes viewfinder equipped with a high-quality optical system made of glass lenses, providing a crystal-clear view of the subject at up to 120 frames per second and a resolution of 5.76 million pixels. The camera also includes a tiltable 3-inch high-res touchscreen, offering additional creative possibilities with its varied viewing angles.
The SL3 records videos in resolutions up to 8K, supported by efficient codecs such as H.265 and ProRes by Apple. The new Maestro-IV processor with L technology handles the vast amounts of data, resulting in images with magnificent color rendering and excellent noise performance. The camera can continuously record video as long as adequate power and file space are available.
The user interface of the Leica SL3 has been redesigned for intuitive handling, with a clear structure and easy navigation. The distinct separation of photo and video modes, each with a specific color code, enhances usability. The user interface aligns itself in landscape or portrait format, depending on the camera position.
The SL3 is designed for durability and ergonomics, with improved handling, robust design, and IP54 certification. It operates in conditions from -10 to 40 degrees Celsius (14 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit) and is noticeably lighter and more compact than its predecessors.
The camera's new interface and improved connectivity ensure a seamless professional workflow. It features CFexpress type B and UHS-II SD slots, a USB-C port for high-speed data transmission, tethering, and power supply, and a full-size HDMI 2.1 output for external monitors or recording equipment. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with MIMO technology ensure a stable and fast connection to the Leica FOTOS app. The Leica SL3 is a certified Apple "Made for iPhone and iPad" accessory, enabling a direct connection to Apple products with the included USB-C cable.
