This scope is one of overlooked gems in the Leupold line up. The VX-Rs are a great mid-range priced scope. The glass punches above it's weight in both the clarity and low light departments. But what makes this scope is the reticle. The Patrol reticle is the perfect set up, imho, for low light stalk hunting. The cross hair circle is about the right size for most game animals heart/lung shot at 100 yards. It is quick offhand to center up the circle over the shoulder. Coupled with the 1.25-4x and FireDot and you have one of the best set up for a light weight stalking rifle. The exposed turrets make it quick to set dope for specific loads and ranges. Finally you get Leupold's warranty. I've had to use it twice over the years, due to operator error, but each time Leupold covered my repairs. Even thought the issues were due to my OE, I've never been charged for a repair or return shipping. While I own many different high end optics, Leupold scopes ride on top of all my favorite hunting rifles.

Use for hunting and target. Love Leupold scopes I have 6 of them and will not buy any other, why because they are made in the USA, the craftsman's ship is outstanding and how clear they are compared to other brands None other compares

I put this on my 300 BLK AR pistol. I have to say that Leupold never ceases to amaze me with how clear their glass is, but that is besides my point. The battery is what I'm talking about here. I have the shake awake firedot reticle. I bought the glass when it had originally come out. As of today March 3rd it just ran out. I use this gun a lot. It had 5 years of life if I am remembering correctly. Solid product.

I shot this scope on my match-Service rifle last year at the National Matches....both of them, at Camp Perry, and Camp Atterbury, and have built a new match rifle...and would like to have the same scope on both rifles, but for some reason that escapes me, Leupold no longer offers this scope for sale. Recommend buyers look to other manufacturers that may be a more reliable and trustworthy supporter. Not sure they'll be able to service this scope if it needs servicing.

This Scope is not worth the price. Too much money for what you get. The rubber lens cover would not stay on it,. bad design. For the money you pay, it did not come with any cover protectors. Would not buy again.

Have this optic mounted on my Sig AR pistol. The fire dot and crisp resolution on all powers makes this the best battle optic I have ever owned.

Am using in MI for deer hunting in thick cover. Excellent low light capability and the red dot really stands out against the landscape. Magnification range is perfect for my limited distance shooting range and the recycle is perfect for those extended occasional longer shots. #sweepstakes

I have been competing in service rifle matches for over two decades and made the move from iron sights to a scope last year. I followed the lead of a very good shooter and ordered this scope with some modifications (1/4 MOA increments and 300yds fixed parallax). I am giving the scope 4 stars as it is my first "service rifle" scope and therefor I have nothing to compare it to. With that in mind, it has worked very well for me. I have no complaints with the clarity of the glass or the reticle. I have found the "focus" control too easy to move as on occasion the focus of the scope changed on me between stages, but this is apparent during the prep and I am able to correct it before needing to shoot. Still, it would be nice if I could "lock" the focus once I have it set so that I don't have to worry about that. If you want to buy a Leupold scope for service rifle competitions, but are not comfortable with doling out $1,800 for their "service rifle" scope (or any of the other seriously expensive service rifle scopes on the market) this one will work for you. Be careful when it comes to mounting the scope to your rifle. If your cheek weld is right behind the charging handle (i.e. your nose touches it), the eye relief of the scope means that you need to have it very far forward. For me, the Leupold scope mounts did not move the scope forward far enough. Additionally, the mount placed the center of the scope significantly above where the center of the peep sight was, drastically changing my cheek weld position to the point where it was not solid. I ended up buying a White Oak extension rail and rings to get the scope forward enough that I could see when in the sitting and prone positions.

I had this scope mounted on my 300blk SBR and the clarity of the glass was fine and I really liked the reticle. However after about a month of use I had some dark spots on the lenses, no worries I thought just a dirty lens... Nope! After cleaning the almost black spots didn't go away, they were internal. Sent it back, got it returned a month later with the repair letter stating "dirty internals". I have used leupolds all my life and now I'm staring to question that. Also I really wish the scope turrets would lock! Will be switching to a Trijicon Accupower. '"

This scope is sweet. The fire dot really helped me hone in on a buck close to dusk in the cedar swamp where it gets dark earlier.

Optical clarity is excellent. Reticle is easy to operate. Target acquisition is fast with lower maginification and illuminated dot. Dot is very visible in daylight or darkness simply by adjusting intensity.

It's a night hog hunters dream. Great in all conditions, but especially at night because you can really turn down the red dot and focus on the vitals. Superb match with the ND3 laser. Tough scope that handles bouncing around in my truck and on my Polaris. The move to wake feature is still my favorite feature. 3 years and I still am on the factory battery.

The quality of this scope is second to none. The reticle is easy to use for range determination and firefox illuminates when movement is sensed. The glass is crystal clear; I believe I se better looking through it than with plain vision. A must buy for any shooter

Sleek design with daylight-capable illumination; the Leupold VX-R Patrol. Patented 1-button design minimizes bulk, while allowing users to select between 8 intensity settings, including a low/high indicator.
