I bought this laptop (6th Generation Intel Core i7-6560U Processor, 16.0GB RAM, 512GB SSD) in Sept 2016. It worked fine for the first year, but with some loud fan noise, which I had expected might happen based on reading other reviews. Still I could deal with that, and it actually improved after a while. Then, just after the laptop was out of warranty, several issues started cropping up. First, more cosmetic issues, such as the corner of the plastic case snapping off so that I had to tape it in place, and the paint on a couple area of the case wearing off. I treat my electronics carefully, so this was surprising and disappointing. Additionally, 2 out of 3 of the rubber pieces along the bottom of the laptop have come off, which is annoying. But the last issues with this laptop were more than annoying, to the point that I will have to purchase another laptop after trying to live with it for the last semester. First, the battery life decreased dramatically, to the point that I could only use the laptop for about an hour without plugging it back in. Second, the speed of the laptop diminished significantly (boot up and during use). I could have lived with those two issues for longer, if the laptop had not also started freezing at least once a day, so that I had to crash it and restart it. Granted, its hard to say if that particular issue was due to the laptop itself or if it was related to a virus or something. I did have antivirus software throughout owning the laptop and I also used performed "clean up" functions with my antivirus software to try to improve the laptop's function, but I had no success. I find it unacceptable for a 1.5 year old laptop that wasn't exactly cheap to begin to have that many issues. If you are planning to buy this, I would definitely recommend thinking about an extended warranty. I do like that this laptop is quite lightweight. I do not like the shorter than ideal charging cord it comes with.

I bought this laptop for my PhD work. In 13 months, one month after the warranty expired, the computer died. I took the machine to two techs and neither could start it or more importantly, retrieve my data. Now I have to go through the burdensome process of recreating the data I hadn't saved. Not only did I lose money but I lost a significant amount of my work. My husband told not to buy a Lenovo since it was no longer the great company it used to be. I wish I had listened.

Solid choice for just about anything a college student will need. Small foot print for easy backpack use. So far no issues out of the box. Long-term reliability is not known at this time, review is for 1 month of use.

I am a grad student in English education. This means super long and busy days where I'm out in schools doing observations of burgeoning young teachers in the field. Between needing the computer for observations and coursework as well as the books and articles I've printed for class, my backpack was way too heavy....until now! (Caveat: these observations/opinions are all based on the comparison to my old HP Envy and I'm not a gearhead or gamer) The IdeaPad 710S is so light, the screen has amazing resolution, and the battery life is fantastic. I love it so much, and am super glad I bought it! My back agrees.

I bought this laptop a couple of months back. The laptop is lightweight and good to use. However the browser is very slow especially when using facebook and I have not been able to get around this problem so far.

Bought it for me and my wife, very light design, great features (backlit keyboard, IPS 1080p screen, very good, loud speakers) The only minus would be 2 USB ports is sometimes not enough. But overall very happy with the purchase. Highly recommended product.

I bought this laptop about a month ago and it really is the perfect combination of power and mobility. The design is sleek and light, but the processors still allow for fast computing and smooth gaming. Would highly recommend!

Been in repair for twice now and Lenovo is refusing to replace it. For a new laptop I should not have to be trying to fix it all the time . DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP

I think 710s is the most valuable light weight laptap with powerful computing and graphics power. It starts in 6 seconds and perform tasks smoothly.

Very lightweight laptop. The only issue I have is that I wish the right shift key was the same size as the left. Often when I attempt to press it, I end up pressing the up arrow key instead. Also, I wish you didn't have to press the function key in order to activate Home and End functions. Other than that, it works very well.

I bought it about a month ago and I'm happy with it. Couple of comments about what I don't like: - It has only one USB 3 port. The second one requires a converter from USB C to USB 3. This is not mentioned in tech. spec. - There is no card reader - also additional converter needed (another unpleasant surprise) - Power button is inconveniently located and sometimes may be pressed accidentally, which requires additional sigh on. Except of these minor details it's a great PC - light and fast. I like it very much.

I have now owned and used this laptop for 8 weeks and I am rather disappointed with it. On a positive note it is light, has great battery life and performs really well. Some of the Lenovo software that ships with the product is great, but on the whole, I am neutral on most of it. Now the negatives. First, the keyboard layout departs from most others, inserting [PgUp] between [Shift] and [/]. When you need to type a lot, the position of the [Shift] key in relation to other keys is important, and when it is in the wrong place, it slows you down. Second, by default you have to press [Fn] together with a function key to get the normal function key configuration; as the standard keypress is swapped for non-standard functions like turning up the volume etc. So if you use the function keys for real work, like using the MS Office suite, this really slows you down. Third, where the white casing and the silver top joins in the front of the laptop, the white edge is raised just enough for it to be an irritation. The whole time that you are working on the computer, your arms or palms rub against this edge. Ergonomics not well thought through.

It has been more than a month , i bough a lenovo 710 yoga,(256 GB SSD) it actually looks very stylish, and switching a tablet when you fold, it is very cool. Im very satisfied. But only annoying thing is fan noise, it seems to be a bit louder to me and after some certain point it might make you annoyed!

Got this for my daughter who's in middle school, and she loves it. Fast and super thin/light. Small bezel is great, battery life is very good, and it does everything it's supposed to. The mouse is really good - smooth and accurate, unlike many windows laptops I've used in the past. The location of the shift key on the right side of the keyboard is awkward - you have to get used to it being much farther right that on a typical keyboard, but that's a minor issue in an otherwise great laptop.

I bought this laptop and received it at the end of August. Everything was swell and I didn't have any issues until this month. Recently, my keycaps became really mushy (even though no food or liquid is allowed to be present with this device). Specifically for my device, it is the volume up, volume down, 1 key and 2 key. These four keys became really mushy. Not only is mushy keys present, it seems like the 2 key seems to shift around when it shouldn't. Lastly, there is background bleed present. I should expect this from a laptop that is $800+. I hope to get this fixed immediately. Not satisfied with how this held up. I expect more from Lenovo.

I have owned Ideapad 701s now for some four months and I am quiet satisfied with it. I have noticed that some reviewers complain about keyboard layout - this has not been a problem for me. My ideapad is quick to start, response time is great and colours on the screen are great. Sound is not bad bud not great either - but hey - I did not buy it because of acoustics. I can recomend Ideapad to anyone. It has served me well and I hope it will continue to do so. I mainly use it for Word and Excel work and surfing the internet and streaming.

As a user of around 4 to 5 months, I believe my experience would definitely be able to substantiate the claims. Disclaimer: I bought the i7 model at sgd1,899. Thought I would give this ultra book a try since it is super light and portable. 1. The trackpad 'pop's out. A lot. Every single time I open up the laptop, I have to push it back in. MAJOR DEAL BREAKER 2. I believe the cooler vents could be placed in a more suitable position than at the top of the keyboard, in a direction towards the screen. I assume that would be the cooler because of the heat emitted from it and also it being the second obvious opening aside from the poorly placed speaker slits. Which leads to my next point. 3. The speaker is ridiculously placed. Below the laptop. When u use it on ur lap, or not on a hard surface, the sound gets blocked up. MAJOR DEAL BREAKER. I BOUGHT IT THINKING THE COOLER VENTS WERE THE SPEAKERS AND THE SPEAKERS WERE THE COOLER VENTS. 4. I get frequent "markings" near the webcam which till now I am unsure as to why it appears now and then. They can be rubbed off with extra strength but it just gets irritating having to rub it off every now and then. 5. KEY PLACEMENTS AS MENTIONED BY MANY OTHER USERS. Arrow keys and shift key. Also, the power key. A diff colour would be nice so that people would avoid pressing it by accident. I know a short press on the power key does not turn the device off but it just doesn't feel right. Feels like one could turn it off by accident anytime. 6. I NEEDED TO RETURN IT FOR REPAIRS IN SUCH A SHORT TERM OF USAGE. It would not turn on. Tech support service was commendable but didn't save me my trip down to the service centre. What shocked me even more was the amount of similar models being returned for repairs. Almost 2k dollars spent on this model, but this is what I get. Definitely not worth the money spent. As much as I would like to compliment on the light weight and portability of this device, I must make known to the potential buyers of the risks involved in getting this particular device. Not really value for money. My first lenovo product. Might be my last.

Let's just say this laptop fits the purpose I need it to, and I'm happy I bought it. Not for everyone, though. I need to write training material while travelling, for business. Powerpoint, word, acrobat. I need to browse large engineering drawing packages while doing so. I need a mobile base for training presentations. This laptop is just what I needed. Minimal, but up to the tasks explained above. The price was right - this isn't one piece of my home office I care to splurge on. On the task of browsing & OCR in large high resolution PDFs, this machine is a bit lacking, but it's enough. Now, there are a few things that take a bit of getting used to, mostly related to the size and form of the keyboard. To keep the cost down they had to get creative with space utilization. Remember, this is part of how they kept the price so low - so accept these limitations or move on to a 17 inch model. - The right shift key is shortened and pushed to the right of the arrow keys, this saves them one row of keys and allows them to keep the keyboard component exactly rectangular. The reason it's awkward is if you type normally you will hit the up arrow when trying to press shift. Takes some getting used to, but get used to it you will. While adjusting to this I made a lot of really annoying errors. - The F keys don't line up like a normal qwerty keyboard because they crammed some extra utility keys into the right hand side. Again. Saves rows on the keyboard and allows the part to be perfectly rectangular. A cost saving feature. Most people look at the f keys when reaching for one, anyway, I think. - For exactly the same reasons, the delete key is pushed over to the left of where it'd be on a normal laptop - if you reach for the delete key without looking you'll hit the power button instead. At first I was really concerned about this one but somehow they made the system smart enough to not shut down when you accidentally hit this key. I'm not quite sure how you'd do something like that, but really. It only shuts down if you press JUST the power key. Overall this laptop was exactly what I needed, and the price was right to convince me that it's worth living with a few minor accessibility issues.
