When genlocking to incoming video, the SPG-812 chassis will have either an analog 812-OP/C or a - 812-OP/D digital genlock module in slot #2 This module places the timing pulses down the motherboard buss. The 812-OP/A analog black burst module then uses these pulses to horizontally lock the PLL on the module and reset the vertical and horizontal counters within the complex programmable logic devices. This times up all counters by an external reference.
The 812-OP/A analog black burst module uses three 2-bit mechanical encoders that give infinite phasing on both the vertical, horizontal and subcarrier timing. This makes the 812-OP/A an ideal reference generator compensating for any timing offset within the timing chain. The horizontal, vertical and sub-carrier timing information are stored in battery backup RAM onboard the microcontrollers and can be held there if power is interrupted to the chassis. This allows you to move the module from chassis to chassis without worry of losing valuable timing information.
The 812-OP/A analog black burst module can go in any slot, except the digital/analog audio test set and power supply slot. When placed in the genlock slot #1 the 812-OP/A analog black burst module becomes the master and applies the correct timing pulses down the motherboard and all other modules slave to it. The 812-OP/A analog black burst module cannot genlock to external video when placed in the genlock slot. It can only run on its internal time base or free-run mode.
When the 812-OP/A analog black burst module is running in its free-run mode, a front panel control adjusts the frequency of the Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator (VCXO). The PCO-818 automatic pulse change-over modules operate as independent or synchronized operation. Two PCO-818 change-over chassis may be interlinked to cause all modules to switch, should a failure occur in the master generator.
