Under the umbrella of Link Electronics' reputable brand, the GenFlex 812-OP/E Digital and Analog Tone Generator Module stands as a testament to high-quality, durable, and advanced audio equipment. This innovative module is a sophisticated blend of digital and analog audio generation, offering versatility for a wide range of applications.
The 812-OP/E is a single module designed for seamless integration with the SPG-812 GenFlex frame. Its primary function is to generate a single AES/EBU digital audio signal, serving as a reliable digital audio reference or digital tone source. Additionally, it can produce a balanced stereo analog audio signal of up to +28dBu, perfect for use as a test tone.
The GenFlex 812-OP/E is equipped with a set of features that make it adaptable to various applications. These include genlocking of the audio to digital or analog video within the GenFlex frame, and the option for the module to free run with its high stability oscillator. Users can select the amplitude and frequency of the audio tone from a fixed set of eight combinations, including three frequencies (1KHz, 400Hz, 60Hz) and three levels (0dBFS, -10dBFS, -20dBFS). This module can also produce "digital silence" while outputting one of the eight combinational tones.
The 812-OP/E offers two digital outputs, one conforming with the AES3-ID interconnection standard and the other with the AES3-1992 interconnection standard. The analog output features screw-type terminal block connections for balanced stereo audio, with the level of the analog audio tone adjustable in 2dB increments in reference to the digital audio with internal rotary switches.
This generator operates at the professional sample rate frequency of 48kHz. LEDs are used to indicate tone frequency and level, digital silence, lock status, and power indication. Users also have control over some of the user status bits through dip switches on the module.
Internally, the audio tone is created with a 24-bit audio "wave table" stored in ROM, with the output formatted and output as digital audio. The analog output is created by digital to analog conversion, achieved with a high-performance one-bit delta-sigma DAC with a 128x oversampled forth-order modulator.
The GenFlex 812-OP/E is built with quality throughout, featuring surface mount thick film resistors in the analog audio signal path to achieve low noise and high-quality audio characteristics. With its ability to produce 24-bit digital audio, it can produce the highest resolution audio available in the AES3 format.
As part of Link's GenFlex family of analog/digital generator products, the 812-OP/E is designed to reside in LINK's SPG-812 frame in the audio slot with a possible total of five other video modules. This module is a testament to Link Electronics' commitment to producing advanced, high-quality audio and video equipment.
