Al A : I really need to get a set of neutral density filters. Working outdoors is making for way too much work on my computer. The question is: What's the difference between this "soft filter set" and another Lee set "Hard edge"? ThanksLUAN L : You need to buy Lee filter holder set and wide angle adapter ring 77mmSATISH B : Hello Al, A hard-edged graduated ND filter has a sharp, well-defined transition between light and dark sections of the filter whereas a soft-edged graduated ND filter has a more gradual, smooth transition. A hard edged graduated ND filter is thus used when there is a sharp transition between light and dark areas in the frame, like those in a landscape/seascape with a horizon. A soft edged filter graduated ND filter is used when there is no distinct separation between light and dark areas of the frame, like in a picture of a mountain range or of a city skyline with skyscrapers. Kind Regards, SatishRALPH G : I have never used a hard edge filter. The recommendation that I received from the Pros was "I would be more satisfied with the soft edge". As a result I have been very satsfied with the Lee soft edge ND filters. Easy to use and with no sharp dark to light edges. RalphHENRY R : The "soft edge" filters are primarily for wide angle lens as the depth of field of these lens may make the hard edge evident. The hard edge will not be evident on normal and telephoto lens as the focus point is so far out and DOF so narrow.Glen H : A hard edge is used when there is an abrupt change in brightness. For example a field with a horizon to a bright sky. A soft edge is a wider smoother change from light to dark. This is used when the light and dark portions are not distinctly separated. For example a mountain and sky. A soft edge filter is less noticeable than a hard edge. It also has the benefit of making the sky more intense, darkening the sky the closer on the top.
Shopper : Will this come with a holder bag for those Filters?CHRIS C : It came in a nice cloth holder. each plate is wrapped individually. It does not come in a hard case if you are looking for more protection. I have traveled with it and had not problem. I hope this helpsABRAHAM O : The filters come in a soft 1-piece cloth pouch that holds the filters in 3 different pockets. It is intended I think for holding the filters until the buyer gets them into something more permanent.Laszlo R : No bag included.BRITTA H : The set comes with a soft-cloth bag with slots for each filter. It folds up nicely and stores in any photo bag or back-pack. The bag isn't padded, but I haven't found it to be a disadvantage.LUKE B : Yes and no... They come individually wrapped in paper but the holder bag is kind of a terry cloth three pouch binder. It's not like the Velcro holder for the big stopper. In all honesty I infrequently use the soft grads. I'd go for the hard if you don't have them already. PAUL H : I would be using these filters with my Nikon 24-70mm and my Nikon 17-35mm Lenses. What Holding System would you recommend I purchase? I'm starting with nothing and need everything to make this work.ABRAHAM O : I use the Lee filters with the Lee holding sysem on my Nikon D700. I use the 77mm wide angle (thin mount) that Lee makes. The Lee system works well. I need more practice with the graduated filters in that they're a bit challening to adjust them to their best position because of the soft transitions. Overall, I'm pleased with the quality of the product. I think I'll eventually get the hard transitions as well. Good luck.SLAVA G : I bought Lee 4 x 6 Neutral Density Graduated Soft Resin Filter Set (Graduate 0.3 ND Soft, 0.6 ND Soft, 0.9 ND Soft) along with Lee Foundation Kit / Filter holder. This filter holder gives you flexibility to set one or all three filters at the same time and have up to 1.8 density. My first use of the filters was on my vacation trip to Olympic Peninsula Washington State. Taking mountains landscape photos is very hard, because of big contrast between upper and lower parts of the frame. I tried to take HDR shots and used the filters. I found both methods would give you very much different result. The filters much quicker to use in compare with HDR (do not need to carry and set tripod). The holder is easy to use and durable. I cannot remember any problem it gave to me. It work same well on wide and long lenses – no shading. I know, it is not cheap, but it is long-term use stuff and I have chosen to have Lee Holder because it is high quality product. Hope my story will help you to make your decision.JAMES W : You could get the Lee foundation kit which is the holder for the ND grad filters. YOu would also need to get the adapter ring for the lenses. I believe those 2 lenses you mentioned have the 77mm ring size. So just get the 77mm LEE adapter ring. That's all you need to get the ND grads in front of your camera without hand holding them :)

Highly quality filter set, must have for any outdoor photography.

Just went down to Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway to photograph fall foliage. The filters really shined! Skies were not washed out while capturing the brilliant colors in the mountain valleys. Because of of the filters longed length the is a lot of leeway in exposure possibilies. Also they are very sharp, no noticeable loss of image quality. Very highly recommended.

Great product with a learning curve

The soft grad takes some practice, and in most cases the effect is subtle. There is immediate image improvements, though I'm not sure I've mastered the necessary skills to maximize them. As with all Lee products, build quality is first rate and dependable.

Excellent value

Grad ND filters are a must have in the bag for landscape photography. The Lee filter kit comes with 1, 2 and 3 stop grad ND filters and gives me the flexibility I need in different lighting conditions. Quality filters can be expensive. I recommend the Lee filter kit for its exceptional value. I also recommend the Lee filter holder in addition.

Easy to use

Set of 3 is important to me so that I can adjust density as needed. Wish hard edged model was still available. These are sized for quick and easy holding up to lens. Haven't used them enough to report on resistance to scratching.
