Before diving into the world of professional video production, consider the SPG-812SA Analog Master Generator Chassis by Link Electronics. This sophisticated, high-tech device is designed to deliver precise analog and digital timing reference signals, making it an essential tool for any serious video production setup.
The SPG-812SA features a modular construction that offers unmatched flexibility, allowing users to easily upgrade from analog to digital. The chassis houses six module cells, each designed to accommodate a variety of functions. One cell is dedicated to a dual analog/digital audio reference tone generator, with an additional digital-only tone generator available.
The second cell is the heart of the device, serving as the master gen-lock module or master time base unit. This can be either analog or digital, depending on the dedicated module selected. This optional gen-lock module provides the time base signals for all other modules in the chassis.
The remaining four cells can be customized to your needs, with options for analog black burst, component digital black, analog composite test pattern, component digital test pattern, source ID, ratings code monitor, or caption decoder. The 812-OP/J source ID module can store up to 32 pages of data and is controlled via RS-232.
Each output module is designed for either 525/60 (NTSC) or 625/50 (PAL) operation, with three outputs per module. Each module also boasts independent infinite timing adjustments for maximum precision. A dual audio tone generator is available to provide Silent, 0dB, -10dB, and -20dB levels.
The SPG-812SA's flexibility is unparalleled in the industry. Each module is easily accessible from the front of the unit and can be installed or removed with ease. All timing adjustments are conveniently located on the front card edge.
The SPG-812SA also allows for gradual upgrading from an all-analog unit to an all-digital unit by combining the appropriate modules. If gen-lock capability is not required, an output module can be installed in the "gen-lock" slot to serve as the unit's master time base.
The digital and analog test generators can be plugged into the SPG-812SA as standalone test signal generators without any other optional module, as they are equipped with their own time base.
The SPG-812SA also supports the PCO-818 automatic pulse change-over modules for independent or synchronized operation. Two PCO-818 change-over chassis can be interlinked to switch all modules should a failure occur in the master generator.
The test generator module offers a variety of patterns in SDI or analog, including 100% Color Bars, 75% Color Bars, SMPTE Color Bars (NTSC) or EBU Color Bars + White Flag (PAL), Modulated Stairstep (5-Step), Un-Modulated Stairstep (5-Step), Modulated Ramp, Un-Modulated Ramp, Pulse & Bar, Field-Rate Square Wave, SDI Check Field, 50% Multiburst, 100% Sweep, Red Field, Shallow Ramp, Gray Field, and Blackburst.
In summary, the SPG-812SA Analog Master Generator Chassis is a versatile, advanced, and professional-grade tool designed to meet the demanding needs of the television and video production industry.
