Waste of money

The product stopped working inexplicably not long after I bought it and I was never able to get it working again. I fired it up recently to try and troubleshoot it, unsuccessfully. If you buy one, keep the receipt.

power through usb3.x

when you connect through usb3.x you can suffice with one connection instead of the double connection because more available current. both the software and hardware does what it should do, I have no problems or failures experienced yet.

Blu Ray playback in a jiffy

I have my TV connected to a PC which is my prime media player. Though I have XBox 360, the lack of Blu Ray playback always disappointed me. It is all one easy to use external Blu Ray player that will complete my home theater setup. What better than this external Blu Ray player? Just plugged it to my PC, installed the required software downloaded from LG website and boom! There I have the Blu Ray player. As this is external drive, just plug it to the computer and done. No tools needed to open the computer. Playback quality/performance has been exceptional. The problem is that the stock disk that comes with the packaging has outdated software in it. It does not work on Windows 8, but after downloading the updates, it worked. Minimum computer hardware requirements are a little misleading especially the graphics card. It did not work on ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4640. I later found that Blu Ray playback needs better graphics card. It works like a charm on ATI Radeon HD 5750.

Burning electronic charts to BR

Need was to use BR disks rather than DVD's as I provide electronic chart updates to fleet units that can easily amount to 20GB. Slower burn speed not much of an issue in my case; it works fine and saves shipping costs.

This drive is only as good as the software

LG BP40NS20 External Blueray How I expected to use it: To watch DVD's and Blueray's on my laptop while traveling. The software that comes with this product is some of the worst. When I did some research, after I couldn't get it to work, I found the people who wrote reviews didn't actually use the software that comes with it. It's bad. Watching a Blueray didn't work without downloading another entities software product. The the DVD playback was jumpy. It does not work straight out of the box. I am returning this product.

Great on a MAC

I used it on my Mac Book Air and then upgraded to a New Mac Book Pro w/Retina. It works great on both. I got the Bond Collection and put the whole collection in my Itunes for my Apple TV. Worked superb with Leawo.

Totally satisfied with this product

The reason I purchased this burner was that I have a Blu Ray player but not a burner. I have lots of pictures and videos of family and trips on my external hard drive and needed to back them up for safe keeping and to free up some disk space. I used Blu Ray 25 GB, 50 GB, 100 GB and single layer DVD blanks with no problems. But I did have major problems with double layer DVD burning and discovered that the blanks were poor quality. I replaced with them good quality blanks and had no problems afterward. I like the compact size as it fits on my desk. The existing software that I use to create videos is compatible which is a plus. The portability is also a plus as I take it with my laptop when I travel. One problem with the Blu Ray player part is my PC video card is not compatible with Blu Ray so I cannot play them on my computer. I also don't like that it takes up two USB ports so I had to get a USB bus to plug in the devices that were removed for the burner. All around I am very satisfied with this product!

No Mac Support

No Mac support can't even find this product on the LG support Page. Switch over to Windows and none of the drivers would work and the bundled programs would not install. Taking the unit back
