Questions & Answers

KETA C : Is this a good starting kit for a beginning videographer who has no lights yet?JOSEPH E : I would say NO. I LOVE the Lowell Tota Lights and own 8 of them. I RARELY use them for video production though. Given that you are a beginner - you probably don't have a lot of lighting experience. These lights are very bright and are direct light sources - meaning LOTS of shadows if you don't know how to modify. I would encourage you to look at LED lighting - it is definitely the future of lighting - that way you will be investing in technology that will be the standard and you can also find LED lights the are dimmable (the Total Lights are not) and because the LED's are not hot - you can easily modify or diffuse them without fear of setting something on fire.FRANK C : Yes, this is an excellent starting kit. Actually you will use it forever, therefore it is a very good investment. The Tota Light is so versatile. It can be used as a Key Light, a Fill Light, a Back Light, a Kicker Light. You can use it directly, through a white umbrella, bounced off a silver umbrella, a white card, etc. You can vary the ratios with a dimmer. Change the bright ness with various bulb wattage. The next addition will be the Lowell Pro light. I've used them nearly every day for the past 30 years.SAMEER D : yes, the kit comes with everything you need to startup, but the light is difficult to control without flags or barn doors. I really like it for the price
weslee p : what wattage are the two lamps that come with it?RICARDO R : 750w
Shopper : Can soft box be use with that set ?DANIEL P : No - the lights are too hot for a soft box.RICARDO R : No that I know , but you can use umbrellas......

Just Amazing

I've been working in production both professionally and semi professionally for over twenty years. More recently I've been shooting low budget and subbing work lights for pro lights. And this is part of a light kit I've purchased for myself to bring up the quality of my work... and I couldn't be more pleased. I'd forgotten the ease that using professional lights brings to any set. With two shoots these have already made my life considerably easier and the results I'm getting in the camera are just amazing. The Lowel Tota was always the work horse and the quality is just there. It provides such an powerful even lighting I'll never go back and I'm cursing the years I've gone without. At this price you cannot afford to get these lights and honestly I can't wait to get another set. I'll also add I think it is super classy of Adorama to include a sectional bag with adjustable sections that allows me to take care of my new investment. I am super picky about equipment bags and was worried it would be some cheap add on to make a little more money. It was not, it is a fantastic equipment bag.

Lowell Tota Lights are Work Horses

Tota Lights are a "Basic" for any location or studio video shoot. Generally the broad beamed Tota Lights would be used as a Fill Light, however they also can creatively be used as Key Light or even Back Lights or Kicker Lights. They are sturdy, yet light weight, which is why they are prized for location work. My best Kit is two Lowell Pro Lights and a Tota for fill.
