Inexpensive yet rugged good quality 52mm screw-in shade mostly for lens protection.

Great lens shade. Well constructed and the best thing is that it is metal. Will take a lot of punishment.

I wanted a good metal lens hood to permanently leave on my new Nikon 50mm f/1.8 and this is it! I screwed this lens hood onto my lens and I never take it off, provides good protection at all times. The inside of the lens hood is grooved to both reduce light bouncing around and also so you can use a lens cap. I purchased a 58mm lens cap to go with this lens hood and it works great.

Didn't care the the whimpy hood on the CV 40 f2 nor the miniscule lens cap. Picked up this 52mm metal hood and a Tamron 58mm lenscap. It's great! No vignette on FX, nice protection, best of both worlds. :)

Works just like it should, but it is impossible to put the lens cap on with it on. It mostly sits in my camera bag.

I bought 2 metal hoods, 52mm and 58mm, for my 35/2 and 50/1.4 canon lenses, after I open the box and screw the hood on lens, I found I cannot put the lens cap on the hood!!! That means I have to chose the hood or cap, but only one! What a design! I have never seen a lens hood like this. I have to leave the lens glass open to air if I screw it on?[...]

Lens hoods guard against uncontrolled, stray light and unwanted reflections which result in reduced contrast and possible "ghost Images". In general, the use of a lens hood is recommended because better contrast improves the appearance of the photograph. This accessory also offers protection for the front lens element against rain and mechanical damage.
Metal Lens Hood are made of black anodized aluminum. It is suitable for lenses of standered focal lenses.
