Can't use filters with this hood. So I have to remove it, if I want to use a lens filter.

you can't use the lens filters with this hood. You have to buy oversized filters instead. That is a poor design as far as I am concerned. Maybe get a hood directly from Sigma instead of an after market one.

It needs a filter thread to hold the cap. You must choose either a cap or the hood on your lens. Also, the inside flat black coating is very uneven. It should have been anodized like the outside.

Lens hoods guard against uncontrolled, stray light and unwanted reflections which result in reduced contrast and possible "ghost Images". In general, the use of a lens hood is recommended because better contrast improves the appearance of the photograph. This accessory also offers protection for the front lens element against rain and mechanical damage.
Metal Lens Hood are made of black anodized aluminum. It is suitable for lenses of standered focal lenses.
