Used it to replace the HB53 hood that came with the lens which was quite fragile and broke. I figured a metal hood would be much more sturdy and wouldn't break under heavy use. It works well as long as you don't zoom all the way out to the 28mm end. You get a bit of vignetting at that end but you can see it in the viewfinder so I can take the hood off if I need to go back that far. Otherwise works great. It would have been better if it could snap to the lens instead of having to be screwed in.

You spend a lot of money on UV, polarizers and ND filters, and if your lenses are smaller like mine—52 & 58mm—and you bought step up rings to use bigger glass, well...you want to protect your investments. This hood does just that. Sturdy, easy on and off. It was just what I needed.

I purchased this because it was cheaper than the HB-31 and I am quite content with this product.

Lens hoods guard against uncontrolled, stray light and unwanted reflections which result in reduced contrast and possible "ghost Images". In general, the use of a lens hood is recommended because better contrast improves the appearance of the photograph. This accessory also offers protection for the front lens element against rain and mechanical damage.
Metal Lens Hood are made of black anodized aluminum. It is suitable for lenses of standered focal lenses.
