The rubber hood fits into a grove in the plastic mounting ring. It keeps pulling off and then you have to stop and try and remount it. Right now I have a nylon cable tie around it, hoping it will keep the rubber in the ring grove. It would be a great hood if it didn't keep falling apart.

I have a Tamron 18-270 zoom lens on my D300 Nikon. Needed to use a CP filter. The Tamron OEM hood with bayonet mount would not allow me to reach inside to adjust the CP filter. I screwed the CP filter onto the lens, then this hood to the CP filter. Now when I turn the hood, the CP filter also rotates allowing for proper polarization. The Tamron OEM lens cap snaps inside the hood with no problem. I noted some vignetting from the hood in its fully extended position when my lens was at 18mm. I just collapsed the hood and the vignetting went away. Extended it back out for zoom shots. I did find that the rubber hood does drag on the inside of my bag so I need to be careful on extracting and inserting the camera in the bag so as not to tear the hood or rip it off the lens.

Only drawback is it's a bit challenging to install a lens cap with it in place. Most people won't even bother though.

Hood stays on the camera at all times. Provides additional protection for lens while in the camera bag.
