Nice refrigerator.

I purchased this refrigerator to replace a side by side refrigerator-freezer that quit working. I have never had a bottom freezer refrigerator before but never liked the side by side so decided to give this a try. After doing some research on different brands and having good personal experience with LG products I decided on this one, and so far a very pleased with it. I didn't particularly want the stainless steel finish but so far am pleased with the limited amount of smudges and fingerprints that show up on it. The interior portion of the refrigerator seems huge compared to the same cf size of my old refrigerator and the layout is great. I really enjoy the LED lighting. The ice maker works great. I am still undecided about how well I am going to like the bottom freezer. It seems that items could easily get buried and forgotten in the bottom of it. The upper rolling drawer in the top of the freezer is very convenient but that is just a small portion of the total size. The refrigerator is very quiet except when the ice maker dumps the new batch of ice but that in my opinion is to be expected and is not a problem. The one and only issue I have with this refrigerator is the difficulty I have in opening the door. There is such a tight seal (which for efficiency I know is good) that I have to give the door a good yank to open it. I very smooth floors and even with the front legs down solid on the floor it still moves forward over time and I have to push the refrigerator back. I feel that the door should not be that hard to open. Another feature that I like is that it came with a door reversal kit which due to the layout of my kitchen I used. I found it to be very easy to do. Overall I am glad that I purchased this product and would recommend it to anyone wanting a single top door, bottom drawer, refrigerator-freezer

Not an all-in-one solution

I bought this on Saturday because I wanted an all-in-one streaming device and Blu-ray player. I was using a smart TV for Netflix and Hulu, and a media center TV with a Blu-ray player for everything else. I was hoping this would replace those devices. The device hooked up very easily. I connected it via cat 5E cable directly to the same router I have my TV and PC connected to. After turning it on, it ran an update and re-started. It has a pleasant and easy to use interface, with a variety of streaming applications that I was interested in trying. First, I tried to use Vudu. I've never used it before, but since it was the first app on the list, I gave it a shot. It made it as far as the loading screen, but that's where it stopped. I couldn't get the device to respond so I unplugged it and tried again. Same result. I tried it one more time and then I moved on to Netflix. Netflix loaded fine, but the first show I tried to stream didn't work (Dr. Who, Season 6 ep1). It said the stream wasn't available. I switched to my smart TV and my PC and it loaded fine (Connected to the same router). Episode 2 did load, but the video quality was very poor. It fluctuated from blurry to HD and back again. I tried it on both my other devices and the video quality was fine. Next I tried Amazon video. This was similar to Netflix, except worse. Not only did the video quality fluctuate, it lost the signal repeatedly, and when I tried to fast forward, the screen went white and the device locked up again. Again, it worked fine on my TV and streaming from a web browser on my PC. Lastly, I tried to stream an MP4 from my network. I was surprised that it found my server, but for some reason it only shows two folders out of many. I tried to play a number of different MP4s. Only one would play. The others caused the device to display a white screen and lock up. Every time it locks up you have to unplug it. On the one MP4 that would play, as soon as I tried to fast forward, it displayed a white screen and locked up. While testing this out I switched Cat 5E cables twice. Same result. I haven't tried the wireless yet, but I don't expect a better outcome. I never even bothered to try to play a Blu-ray or DVD. My media PC plays those fine, so I don't need that functionality anyway. I wanted an all-in-one solution and the LG BP 550 has turned out to be a none-in-one solution. I'm very disappointed.

It was great while it worked

I was happy with the BD550 until shortly after the warranty ran out it stopped playing BD disks. Everything else still works fine, and it still plays DVD, just no BD.

Great player, mediocre software

This one was purchased to replace another player that stopped working. It HAD to have Netflix and VuDu, but anything else just added to the value. The player hookup was so simple - just three wires, incuding the Cat-5. Once it was powered up, I just had to set the language. It found the network and was ready to go. This unit has DLNA, which was something I wanted, but had not listed as a requirement. It comes with the Nero Media Home, which works, but is difficult to use. When media is added, I found it was necessary to stop the server and restart it before the BluRay player would find it. Other DLNA server software will work with the unit, including Windows Media Player, but you have to set each one up before you can stream. Overall, this is an excellent player, but you should remember that you aren't limited to the software that comes with the package.

My first Blu-ray Player couldn't be better!

I have owned quite a few LG products in the last couple years, and my TV and this Blu-ray player are magnificent. Coupled with my satellite TV and my BD550 Blu-ray player on the new TV, I have the best of all worlds. LG has never let me down. I got this player as a gift a few years ago, and it still looks and functions like a new unit. I'd say buy LG if you want quality and value that can't be surpassed.

A Blu-Ray player which won't play Blu Ray discs

I received the players as a gift for Christmas one year. We've had it for about 2 years now. The interface is poor at best and the included programs are awful(Netflix, Pandora. This is really fine as we just use our Nintendo WII for most streaming tasks. Recently our player has stopped playing Blu-Ray discs. We put the disc into the player, it attempts to read it for a few minutes, then spits it back out. DVDs still work, but all Blu-Ray discs are a no-go now. The problem started intermittently but now every disc is rejected. We verified that the firmware was up to date and reset to factory defaults. Nothing has worked so now we are shopping for a new player which isn't made by LG.

Great Product, Great Price

I only gave Overall 4 stars just because this is an older model that while wireless ready it needs to be plugged into the router. This has nice features and I appreciate the way this works. I never have a connectivity problem and rarely locks up. For the price it's a nice BD. Thanks LG you never let me down no matter what product it is.

No problems here

This blue ray player works great. The only down side, was that it needs to be hooked into an ethernet cable for all the updates, it does not have wifi. So we had to put this one down stairs in our basement where our router is and buy another one for upstairs. I guess that was my fault for not reading all the specs. Anyway, my kids stream netflix through it with ease.....great buy.

Very Disappointed

I received this as a gift. Ive used it for six months and the picture froze. Then it started kicking the dvd out and wouldnt play. I would unplug it and reset it and it would work for a few days. Then it just quit all together. I read reviews on other sites and everyone of them had the same problem I had.

Subtitle English

Blue-Ray DVD device didn't have subtitle English from disk with CC. No matter device has setting for it but it was not working. I was very disappointed with it. I notice device is discontinued. It is not fair for me not able to view movie or film without closed captioning. Waste my money and angry.

Simply awesome

Over the past few years, I have had the pleasure of owning several Blue Ray DVD players. However, the LG BD550 has by far is the best the player have. Easy set up as well as easy functionality has made this device easy to use for my entire family. I also like how I can still receive software updates over the internet and it communicates with other LG products. For example: I currently have it hooked up to a LG TV, if the TV is off, this player will turn it on when i push the power button the player. Simply put, I am incredibly happy with this product.

Good Product and Good Features

I enjoy using the Blu-Ray drive, plus a few of the features I have accounts with like Netflix and Pandora. I've had no issues with it, regardless of the cable configurations. The updates are very quick too, given the FiOS speed internet I use.

Decent player

Does everything as advertised. Can't beat the price for what you are getting. Netflix movies play perfectly. Had to do an update before it would play a blu ray disc which took about 15 minutes.

Good first connected blu-ray player

This is my first blu-ray player and connected device, and I've been happy with it. I feel it is good quality - reliable, durable, does what it was designed to. DVD and blu-ray load time seems slow, but works consistently well. I use the Netflix feature all the time -- although these days I'm more tempted to quit Netflix which means I might use this device less. Have also used Vudu and CinemaNow a bit. Personally have not found much use for the other "Netcast" features (MLB.tv, Divx.tv, Youtube, Napster, Picasa and AccuWeather). I take that back -- we've used the Pandora quite a bit too. Netcase is easy to use and performs well. Setup of the device was easy in my case since I had an extra wifi router with ethernet to plug into. Otherwise, a device with Wifi is essential.

Almost perfect

I was looking for a feature-rich but budget-friendly Blu-ray player a few months ago when I found this one. After checking reviews online and features in person, this turned out to be the clear winner. The only feature it doesn't have that I've come to want is an upgrade to NetCast that would add Amazon video; the only problem I've had is not being able to sign into Picasa (but I only have one photo posted there, so I don't really miss that!)

Great buy

We bought this to stream Netflix and have been very happy with this purchase. We don't have cable and do not receive any network stations via antenna, but have enjoyed how easy it was to hook up and watch Netflix from our tv. We also enjoy the other web apps, especially pandora as we can stream this through our sound system and easily access it from our tv.

Outstanding Value

This was the first BlueRay player I ever bought. I used a wireless ethernet station to connect it to my home network and watch Netflix and Accu-Weather and to listen to Pandora Radio. It has never failed me, simple to set up, perfect on-screen menus help you through everything. Picture quality from both disk and network are perfect. Plays BlueRay disks perfectly, and the firmware is regularly updated either on-line directly or by using the USB connection and a thumb drive. I will buy LG again, this time a model with built-in wireless!

Great BD Player

Purchased this BD player because it was recommended by Consumer Reports. It’s easy to use and does a good job of upconverting SD DVDs. For less than $100, shipping included, you can’t go wrong, and it matches the style of my 50PK750!
