I bought this when my computers internal burner failed. this was a fast and easy way of getting back to burning dvd's.

I have 2 of these burners and neither of them work with Nero to burn videos I create. Getting an error at the end of the process of burning thru Nero and I can't make them work anymore. Not of use to me at all.

Product works very well. I bought it primarily for listening to CDs and ripping CDs, but I have tested it for DVDs and it works fine there also. The horizontal sturdy tray feature is the best part and the reason I got it. My computer actually has an optical drive but it is vertical, flimsy and extremely difficult to use. So the external drive makes my life easier. One suggestion though for designers: move the button to the side or top instead of its position below the tray. It is very difficult to hit the button when the tray is open. Poor ergonomics.

I can't say too much as yet as I don't burn CDs and DVDs very often. So far I only have played a DVD and it was fine. I was a little nonplussed that there is not really any player software included with this unit, except some third-party commercial "trial" version. But I will say the unit was super easy to install, and customer support was able to direct me to download good player software, and to reassure me that I had done everything correctly. The specs are perfect for what I needed for my laptop, whose DVD reader apparently died. So, keeping my fingers crossed that this will last for a good long time and prevent my having to buy a whole new computer.

I bought this for my new HP desktop PC. Works great and I love the tray loading feature. New PC has laptop type DVD disk, which you must snap disk onto center of drive. Seems flimsy, tray loading much better. Works fine for Windows 10 no drivers needed.

This is my 2nd GE24NU40. 1st one lasted 4 years. Dependable, quiet and excellent results with DVD's or CD's.

My old internal drive quit working and I needed something fast, I found this drive and am glad I did. Plugged it in and caught up on work without missing a beat. With this drive I can use it as I travel also. Great purchase.

Fast and quiet, and it worked perfect the first time I used it to make DVDs from old recorded home VHS tapes. I had been struggling for two months trying to get the right program to work. It turned out the cheap external optical drive I bought previously was outdated and useless. Admittedly the first capture program I purchased was cheap and useless also. I was able to send that back.

I've only had this DVD Writer for less than a month, but so far it has impressed me with its' build quailty as well as the speed that it can burn CDs. For example it has been averaging 2-4 minutes to burn 10-12 track CDs of 55 - 70 minutes in length !! Pretty good in my opinion. And it is very quiet which would indicate an efficient drive and motor system.

I bought this April of last year and I must admit that I love the interior, it keeps my vegetables fresher than any refrigerator I have ever owned in the past. I like that it has an alarm that let's you know that the door is still opened. Cannot not say too many good things about the exterior though, scratches easily and has marks on it already (discoloration) that will not come off.

Worked okay for about a month, then started developing recognition issues. After bootup drive appears in the network, once any disc is inserted it disappears. Not worth any more time to invest in software updates, reboots or research. nothing helps. Expensive paperweight. Buyer beware.

I bought two of these to replace failing LaCie burners which were several years old. So far they have burned everything without any glitches or hiccups. They have been reliable, and I burn CDs and DVDs constantly. Great units.

I give up, I don't recommend this product . After wasting time trying to get it to work properly , it will become a paperweight . I tried to get it to work on Windows 10 to no avail and on Windows 8 . It will recognize the drive until you put a dvd in then disappear . I should have purchased an internal drive in the first place . in fact , that is what I am going to do

I originally purchased back in November when I learned my new pc had only one internal slim type drive with speeds of only 8x. I was thrilled to learn that this product had up to 24x speed. It worked great for about a month and then I started noticing burning errors and while reading a disc it would seize up in the middle of the read. For example while checking a burned disc for errors it would stop reading the disc (the light stopped flashing green) but the drive still makes noise as if it is still reading the disc. Also the allotted time it would show to complete would increase instead of decrease letting me know it wasn't working. I thought it was a fluke so I took it back for an exchange and now the same exact thing is happening with the new one. I'm not sure what's causing this as I have tried it on both my usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports. When it freezes like this I either have to restart my pc or unplug the power adapter from the drive and plug it back in. It's very annoying that I can't use it to read discs back to back without this happening. Other than that it works great.
