I needed a bigger bag and something that could also hold my Ronin-S gimbal. My former backpack had a small compartment at the top that I could place my gimbal in unfolded, but this was at the cost of space for other gear. The Whistler II can actually fit the Ronin-S in its thin back compartment. This leaves the entire main compartment available for the rest of my main equipment. It can comfortably fit a C200 with the Canon 85 f/1.4, its monitor, a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k with 18-35mm attached, and two additional lenses (24-105 ii and a smaller prime). My only feedback is that the waist straps are now attached to the back of the bag that folds out to open the main compartment. These waist straps are LARGE and FAT. They get in the way every single time I want to open the bag. My old LowePro Trek had these waist straps attached to the body of the bag so it never infringed on the opening/closing of the main compartment. It's very cumbersome and annoying!

"One of the best outdoor camera bags on the market, by far. It is built for adventure and combating the elements, and was designed with the organization to carry all the necessary gear and equipment you need for trips in the outdoors. It’s also super comfortable, which can be a big low point for a lot of camera bags."
The Whistler Backpack 450 AW II in Gray, part of Lowepro's esteemed Whistler Series, is an all-season, high-performance backpack designed for the adventurous wilderness photographer. This second-generation pack, meticulously redesigned, offers exceptional versatility for those who carry a balanced mix of camera equipment, video gear, and essential outdoor accessories.
Drawing inspiration from our brand's rich heritage and the adventurous spirit of our founder, Greg Lowe, the Whistler alpine pack embodies the perfect blend of innovation and functionality. It has been rigorously designed and tested by professional photographers, including renowned Whistler shooter Paul Morrison, in the challenging conditions of the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada.
Key upgrades in this model include a 20% increase in interior cargo space, now accommodating three lenses across. A dedicated CradleFit 15-inch laptop compartment has been added to the 450 model, providing secure storage for your tech gear. The backpack also features top and body side access to the camera compartment for quick and easy gear retrieval.
Comfort is paramount with the new dual-density harness design, while the simplified attachment points and routing for compression straps enhance its usability. Special insert pads are included for controllers and drones, ensuring your valuable components are well-protected within the bag.
The Whistler Backpack 450 AW II also comes with a detachable All Weather AW Cover, providing robust protection for your gear against rain, snow, dust, or sand. The front pocket is spacious enough to accommodate alpine essentials such as a shovel, probe, rope, or extra clothes, and a waterproof barrier separates wet gear from the main compartment.
The top pocket, designed with a high-visibility orange interior, includes a key leash inside a zippered pocket. A camera with a mounted long lens can be easily loaded through the top access, and the folding dividers can be configured vertically or horizontally to accommodate different types and shapes of gear.
Heavy gear like skis, ice tools, or a pro tripod can be attached to the sides without obstructing access to the main compartment. The multiple attachment points make it easy to expand capacity and add trekking poles, a snowboard, or other alpine essentials, making the Whistler Backpack 450 AW II the ultimate companion for your wilderness photography adventures.
